    Using "clean slate" drivers


    Hello, I have an old computer that used to have a failing hard drive. I managed to copy mostly everything over to a new one, but when I tried to use the newer hard drive, it acted as though the drivers were corrupt.. Is there a way that I can revert back to the most default drivers possible? Even if you try to completely revert to default drivers there are still some system unique drivers that windows cannot run without. Could I use the install media to revive the windows installation, while still keeping my stuff? Startup repair doesn't fix anything.

    Sorry for the delayed response.

    I suggest that you install the drivers in the compatibility mode and check. Follow the below steps.

    Find the file that installs the drivers and then...



    • Right click on the exe
    • Click on Properties
    • Click the Compatibility tab
    • Tick the box labelled Run this program in compatibility mode for

    • Select the version of Windows that this application was designed to run on

    The tutorials provided are just a list of troubleshooting steps. Use only the steps which apply to you.

    Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.
