  1. Using Hard Drive Toaster with 2 Drives = frequent disconnects

    Hi there,

As the forum topic states, I have two hard drives (one 500 gigs and another 6TB) in a hard drive toaster connected to windows 10. The hard drive toaster supports drives up to 8TB, by the way. What happens is that my computer, which is on for more than a day or two, eventually disconnects the drives, even though the toaster is still running. I'm forced to power down the toaster and power it back on to get Windows 10 to recognize it, which I'm sure isn't the best for the drives.

Sometimes, when the drives are powered back on, Windows 10 says there are errors with the drives and that they need to be scanned. Mind you, I've done nothing with the drives other than using them as storage. I tried to fix this by going into the power options and setting USB selective suspend to 'disabled', but the drives keep powering down when they're not in use and then, Win 10 eventually kicks them off the system, which requires the above steps to get them recognized again.
Is there any way I can just keep the drives on at all times so this doesn't happen? The drives are perfectly healthy drives.

Thank you very much for the help!

    :)

Windows 10, unable to disable USB selective suspend

The device is a USB hard drive. It never disconnected due to inactivity using Windows 7.

Like clockwork, in Windows 10, it disconnects after about 2 minutes of inactivity.

    Still not resolved.

  4. Using Hard Drive Toaster with 2 Drives = frequent disconnects

    Hi there,

I'm still having problems with this in Windows 10 Build 1703. If I leave the hard drive toaster connected to Windows 10 (with two drives in it -- in the toaster), it eventually causes the drives to corrupt if the computer is left on too long (for several days). I think it has something to do with the fact that the drives aren't being accessed for long periods of time and, perhaps, the drives are trying to go to sleep or something like that -- and it causes an interruption between the drive interface and Windows 10. I've tried two different hard drive toasters -- both eventually cause the same thing to happen. I tried searching for advice, but couldn't find any specific information related to my problem.

I am forced to check the disk for errors, then find the 'found.001' folder with the files that were lost in the chkdsk operation and replace those files back to their original locations. It's kind of annoying.

If anyone could suggest any fixes, I'd truly appreciate it.

Thank you very much for the help!

  5. By the way, this never used to happen in Windows 7. ...which leads me to believe that some setting in Windows 10 should stop it from happening.
