Windows 10: Using sleep mode just turns off the screen of my pc

When I put my PC into sleep mode, after shaking my mouse or pressing a key, the PC is already logged in and is at exactly where I left it. Usually when I put my PC in sleep mode it starts at the lock screen and requires me to login each time. Until a few days ago since when this issue has started to occur. PC turns on straight away after sleep mode is on

I see that you system is still on even if the sleep mode option is turned on. This might be due to the change in the power plan settings.

Please follow the below methods and check if it works,

Method 1: I suggest you to run in-built Power troubleshooter and check. Follow the steps:

• Press Windows Key + X.
• Click on Control Panel.
• Select Troubleshooting on the left pane, click on
  View All.
• Click on Power to run the troubleshooter.

Method 2: If the above method doesn’t help, I would suggest you to reset and restore all of the default Power Plans back with their default settings. Follow the steps.

• Press Windows Key + X.
• Type Power Options and then Enter.
• In the left pane Select Change when the computer sleeps.
• Select Restore default settings on this plan.
• Restart the computer and check with the issue.

Getting to sign on screen from sleep mode

• What were you doing on your device before performing sleep mode?
  
• Can you verify if you're just only seeing a blank screen after putting your PC in sleep mode?
  
• Did you encounter any error messages?
• Can you tell us the troubleshooting steps that you've performed?

Is it safe to put your pc in sleep mode?

It can decrease the lifespan of the RAM, power supply, and especially the motherboard. The highest rate of motherboard failures I have encountered were often tied to computers that were suspended rather than turned off.


Sleep/suspend mode keeps the memory powered on. That means those components are subjected to punishment more than they would be otherwise.


Turning on and off frequently (more than every 30 minutes) is also not good for components.


Simply put, if the computer is going to be off more than 30 minutes, power it off. If not, just turn the monitor off (I don't bother with screen savers because they use processing power when the best way to save a screen is to not have it on at all).
