  1. Using the "this PC" folder

I want to create new folders under "This PC" but Windows 10 doesn't give me the option to edit any of these folders, I can't even change the icons! I have personal, work, and professional that I would like to keep all files for each separate so they each have their own little world. I want to set it up so that under "This PC" I would have all the default folders such as documents, pictures, etc for general/personal things plus a folder for all my work stuff and another folder for all of my business stuff. Then of course under my work folder for instance, I would then have a whole subsequent layering of folders.

I know I can use libraries to somewhat accomplish this but I really don't care for that set up. I've also read some very complex suggestions but they are beyond my abilities. Bottom-line, I really don't find it useful to have all documents together, all pictures together, etc. It's much more helpful to categorize related items (in today's world that inevitably means mixed media) and it seems like Windows decided to remove that option for 10 and I don't understand why.

    Any suggestions?

    :)

Quick Access not searching Pictures folder

Summary, that last suggestion didn't work.

    • I moved the pictures to another folder temporarily.

    • Since there were no troubleshooting steps for this scenario, just for the heck of it, I ran through the restore steps. Copied some pictures into the Pictures folder, ran a Quick Access search and initial problem remains: Searching all of QA doesn't find any files in Pictures folder, running search on just the Pictures folder does. I want to run a global search and find matching files in any/all of the Documents, Music, Videos, and Pictures folders.
That article dates from 2015 and I'm guessing is out of date. I hope it didn't create potential future problems in my registry.

Bottom line: I'm still looking for a fix.

Documents/Pictures folders under 'This PC' refer to onedrive - not the local folders

Since the only folder that has incorrect file path is the Documents folder under This PC, we would suggest you do the same steps provided above. However, do it in your Documents folder under This PC. To do so, kindly follow the steps below:

    • Open File Explorer
    • Click This PC
    • Right-click on Documents
    • Click Properties
    • Click Location
    • Click Restore Default
    • Click Apply
    • Click OK
Also, we would like to inform you that "winhelponline.com" is not associated with Microsoft.

Let us know how it goes.

    Using the "this PC" folder

Change Folder View Layout in Windows 10

"uhm that method does not work. i want to set folder view as List as default instead Details for all folders"
Did you download and run Brink's .bat file in Step 1 ? Lacking that, look at the screens in post 3. In Step 5 'folders of this type' defaults to each of the Windows templates for Pictures, Music, etc. If you want ALL folders to have the same List view, r-click any folder in each of the 5 folders under This PC (Desktop does not apply) and hit 'Customize this folder'. Set to 'Optimize this folder for General Items". Then follow the screen in post 3 using List instead of Details in Step 1 and you should be good to go.
