  1. Using the Westminster font as supplied with Windows 98 in commercial products?

Hi,I am trying to find the means to license the Microsoft-owned Westminster font so I can use it in a product I am making. There is a Microsoft page for the font family, however it directs you to myfonts.com for licensing and they tell me that they do not have it as part of their available library. As I understand it, it was distributed freely with Windows 98 systems which I do still own in storage.Would it therefore be free for me to use commercially, in-keeping with fonts available on modern Microsoft operating systems?TIA

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Fonts. Is commercial use allowed?

Greetings. I am an independent contractor of sorts who runs a small business (1 employee, myself). For my work I do not use office products such as word or excel but I do use paint and gimp. These two latter programs seeming both allow commercial use. My question is this. I use a licensed copy of windows 10 pro. Can I use the windows fonts for commercial use such as in a video file, on a t-shirt, or in a business logo? Previous replies to similar questions stated that the font files could not be embedded (I am not redistributing the fonts, merely using their appearance in commercial documents). However, a line from https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/typography/fonts/font-faq states

“Can I sell things I print from Windows or make using these printouts, say a book, logo, advertisement, report, t-shirt, or crafts that use fonts that come with Windows?

Unless you are using an application that is specifically licensed for home, student, or non-commercial use, we do not restrict you from selling the things you print and make using the Windows-supplied fonts.”

I am a bit confused about the wording. By “application specifically licensed for home, student, or non-commercial use” is the text referring to office products or the version of windows? Am I fine to use windows supplied fonts such as “Arial” in commercial products with windows 10 pro, or do I need to upgrade to a different version of windows (and if so, which one)?

  3. Permission for commercial use of this fonts

    Hello Viktor Chernyavskiy

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Glad to be here to answer for your concern.

From your description, I learned that you need to use the following three fonts for commercial use,

    1. Arial Rounded MT Bold
    2. Arial Rounded MT Std Extra Bold
    3. Segoe Print

After my inquiries, the first and second fonts seem to be owned by an Office 365 subscription, and the third font system comes with it. Here are some answers about the commercial use of fonts:

1-Where did the Windows fonts come from?

Some of the fonts supplied with Windows were created specifically for Microsoft by leading type designers and type design companies (known as font foundries). Other fonts were licensed to Microsoft from font foundries for inclusion with Windows.

2-What can I do with the things that I print from Windows using these fonts?

Unless you are using an application that is specifically licensed for home, student, or non-commercial use, we do not place any restrictions on what you do with print output that uses these fonts.

3-Can I sell things I print from Windows or make using these printouts, say a book, logo, advertisement, report, t-shirt, or crafts that use fonts that come with Windows?

Unless you are using an application that is specifically licensed for home, student, or non-commercial use, we do not restrict you from selling the things you print and make using the Windows-supplied fonts.

4-Can I make graphic files using the fonts, say a screengrab, advertisement, meme or poster and share, sell or redistribute those graphic files?

We view creating graphic files as being essentially the same as printing from an output device.

Based on the above conclusions, the answer to the third and fourth question applies in your needs. Hope it helps.

Using the Westminster font as supplied with Windows 98 in commercial products?

Microsoft Yahei font in commercial outputs

Is my interpretation right on Microsoft Yahei based on Microsoft font redistribution info:

Microsoft YaHei font family - Typography

    Font redistribution FAQ - Typography

that as long as I am using Microsoft yahei in commercial outputs via commercial applications such as visual studio and Windows, I am not violating Beijing Founder Electro co.'s font EULA?

I saw a Q by a professional who used the font in an image output that was originally created through company's Office 365 and then through commercially licensed Windows Microsoft painter, got contacted by this original font designer for license violation.

Can Microsoft answer clearer on this font license related matter? Am I protected to use this font as long as I use it in commercial applications in licensed Windows system?
