Windows 10: Using your 20 year old Laserjet 6p with Current Winldows products

The problem with using the old parallel connectivity is that those old cards are mostly ISA and not PCI. There is a way to get around it though. I know, I did it and my 20 year old printer is still printing using Windows 10. I had to find a device that would plug into the centronics port on the printer then converts the parallel signal to a USB signal. Then I just connected a USB cable from that to one of the USB ports on my PC.

It was quite a while back but you can find these devices on Amazon. Just search for a centronics printer cable to USB. Look closely at your connector on the back of your printer and you will need a female USB connector on the other end unless your printer is right next to your PC. Mine is on the opposite side of my workstation from my PC; so, I had to use a regular USB cable as an extension to reach.

There is one problem. All the conversions slows the print spooling down. If you are not retired like I am you should probably upgrade to a high end HP inkjet.

Windows 10 HP LaserJet 6p printer issues

Ok, I got Win 10 to find and install the old HP LaserJet 6p.

It says it has the most up-todate driver, however it gives an "error printing on HP Laserjet 6p"/ "the printer could not print this".

No matter what I send it, even the "TEST PAGE"!

I also went to HP, but those drivers aren't valid for win 10.

BUT I've found in one of my backup files the word HP Laserjet 6p: prnhp001.inf_amd64_081cf2b90ec9e6d5
Selecting this when installing on the regular way, it installs on the usual way.
Dit cost some time to find this way, but now It works.

 

Windows 10 - driver needed for HP Laserjet 6P

I just updated computer to Windows 10

I cannot find the driver for HP Laserjet 6P.

I tried to find it in the list of printers and did not find it.

Where do I find it or get the driver download?
