    V1803 Changes Audio Playback Detection


    I use my PC for both general use and for my home recording studio. Prior to1803 I could have my recording interface connected (its an MOTU 896Mk3 Hybrid with ASIO) and also my regular PC audio (Realtek) and the PC Audio "Speakers" would remain as the default audio playback device. Thus I could use the MOTU unit with my recording software (Cakewalk Sonar) and the PC audio with other audio devices. I could do a mixdown and master the recording project In Sonar, then export it to a wav file on the PC. I could then import that wav file to Goldwave (for example) audio editor program, play the wav file and it would playback on the PC audio/speakers and allow hearing what the wav file sounded on PC speakers (for comparison).


    Now, with V1803 it automatically makes the MOTU unit the default playback device (when its connected). I have to manually change the default audio playback device to the PC Speakers when I want to hear how it sounds on the PC speakers.

    This is not a problem for most, but for those of us that use the PC for dual purpose recording DAW it is a new issue to deal with.
