Windows 10: Validity Sensor Driver

Hello,

I've been having this issue since yesterday morning. I have been trying to update the driver for my Validity Sensor (VFS451)
(fingerprint scanner) to the newest version so Windows Hello activates.

I have an EliteBook 8740w, WIndows 10. I've installed drivers from many, many different websites, and tried so many different methods. I got on the WIndows Catalog and downloaded the .cab file for it, no luck there. I try uninstalling it from 2.3.0.0 and some how, it always comes back. I turn off my internet so it doesn't auto install and try installing manually from the driver folder, no luck. I've uninstalled it from Programs and Features and still, no luck.

Any solutions? Any help is appreciated.

Fingerprint reader on Windows 10?

What model is your sensor VFS300 by any chance as I have that working on a Dell Vostro 3500 but it wasn't after the upgrade as Windows 10 installs the Validity Sensors (VFS300) driver and not the Validity Sensors (WBF) VFS300 driver.

 

cannot install updates

fail to install two updates:

1. Driver: Validity Sensors, Inc. driver update for Validity Sensors (WBF) (PID=0018)

2. Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB4015217)

tried trouble shooting, not working.

 

I have an elite book 840 and have the same problem. It came with Win 7 32 bit Home which I promptly got rid of and installed 10. I have never been able to use my fingerprint sensor. HP has several versions of of their security software suites. The current one is HP simplepass. The version #8 is supported in Win 10. The Validity Fingerprint Driver for Windows 8 would likely work but I believe there is a newer version. With both installed you should be able to use SimplePass for everything or just use the driver and see if you see Windows Hello. This has yet to work for me but has worked for others.

Before doing anything look in your bios and see if the fingerprint sensor is enabled.

 

This is the driver I have installed. I believe it is the one that Windows 10 picked. I do not have SimplePass installed and the fingerprint scanner works only with Windows Hello.

 

The quickest way to fix this might be to perform a clean install.

I say this for two reasons

1 - the update carries a lot of crap over from the previous version - it makes the upgrade easier, but it doesn't necessarily make it stable.

2 - People carry over habits that served them well on previous versions, but actually are the root cause of many Win10 issues.

When you combine the two, it is a recipe for premature baldness *Tongue

Here's my suggestion

• You'll need license keys for any purchased software - Belarc Advisor can provide most if not all for you.
  After the clean install is finished
  -> Download a fresh copy of the software ... the stuff on the CD or DVD is always out-of-date.
  
  
• Back up your personal data
  
  
• Do the clean install

That's it
- you don't have to update any drivers
- you shouldn't update any drivers
- Windows does a GREAT job for you... really it does!

Ok, there might be one or two Other devices - unknown where you have to go to the OEM site.
Having upgraded over 100 machines (would have been more had I not suffered a severe stroke) , there was only one driver that wasn't supplied by Windows. It was the HP 'drop protection' driver for the HD.

If you go this route and do find Other devices - unknown, please post the Hardware IDs section of Device Mgr
