Good work, and glad you resolved your problem, I would have give up...

About Simplewall... doesn't need to run all the time, just set the rules and quit, there are different ways to do it (Group policy, registry…). That's why it's dangerous to mix firewall apps.

Yes, you're right about WFC. There were false positives, but author has many files on his site, that could be about involving PUPs into his product (again, according to Virustotal).

Again, good work and thanks for posting back *Thumbs

I'm tearing my hair out with this one, have searched and tried many fixes, but to no avail.

I posted at : networking - Firewall allowed app still blocked in Windows 10 x64 Pro - Super User , but have got nothing that helped, so trying here.

    Pretty recent install :
OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Pro N
    Version 10.0.16299 Build 16299

I have customized and attempted to plug Win 10 privacy holes, yet everything was working fine after doing this, then suddenly MOST (not all) new apps couldn't connect to net.

It may have been caused by BiniSoft.org Windows Firewall Control, but can't say. When I uninstalled i specified for it to remove everything, rules, etc.

So far I've reinstalled all Apps, in-place Win 10 reinstall, all of the possible resets: Winsock, NETSH, etc, also reset Firewall (just using default), complete repair with Tweaking Repair.

Edge gives error : INET_E_RESOURCE_NOT_FOUND , yet the various fixes I've found online didn't help.

    No difference with Firewall disabled.

Help me Obi Wans - you're my only hope!

    :)

  3. microsoft apps not working in windows 10 What's up?

I have been searching through the various threads on here and cannot get any resolution to my situation. I have tried the wsreset, the powershell options to re-register my apps -

microsoft edge, opens for around 2 seconds and then closes, I cannot use cortana as this too needs edge to answer my questions, the store app cannot connect to the internet whilst everything else can (hence me being able to type this) I really am at the
end of my tether and I do not seem to be alone in this either. thousands of people are in the same situation.

    Can this be fixed

Hi reelism and welcome to Tenforums.
This is a long shot, but try disabling the IPv6 on your NIC, and manually set the DNS servers for IPv4.

    Settings>Network & internet>Change adapter options
Right-click your active network adapter and select properties
    Uncheck the box for IPv6
    Highlight IPv4, select Properties
Select Use the following DNS server addresses
Preferred = 208.67.222.222 (this is OpenDNS)
Secondary - 8.8.8.8 (this is Google)

open an admin command prompt and type
Code: ipconfig /flushdns[/quote] Reboot the system. See if that helps.

Did the above, and had tried changing DNS servers before, but unfortunately no change.

It seems to be 'spreading', i.e. I opened PC Whatsapp earlier, which was connecting fine and now isn't (and as a matter of interest launches from: C:\Users\m0rg5\AppData\Local\WhatsApp\app-0.2.9008 , I thought maybe other Portable apps might also connect from /local/ but no luck).

Quirky other things: new install of Avast - can connect and update fine, but new install of Eset could not.

I've got no idea what could be causing this - and based on my research - many after update to 1709 (I clean installed) are experiencing the same symptoms and don't know either.

    Any other leads?

    No change.

Windows Apps can't connect, portable apps can't either.

BTW Admin CMD didn't work, but Admin PowerShell did.

I have reinstalled Apps multiple times.

I know it sounds strange, but, did you reset your router?

And can you copy and paste result from ipconfig /all?

Edit: did you try temoprary disabling Windows firewall? Just to check if this is the culprit?

Hey, yes, have disabled Firewall and tested, and reset firewall multiple times, in various ways.
I've also manually added programs to connect, no difference.
As an aside now, after the RegFix, Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Defender Firewall\Customise Settings
Shows : "for your security, some settings are managed by your system administrator"
Obviously that's me, and I could turn off previously.

I've also reset networking and restarted.

I'm actually on laptop on various wifi connections, home router, public hotspots and mobile hotspot, all the same symptoms.

reelism, you should delete Physical address (MAC) in your post (listed twice).

While trying to resolve this problem, IPv6 should be disabled, DNS set to some reliable server (1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8).

Disabling firewall didn't help? No connection with Edge , while firewall disabled?

Nothing really strange in your settings..

I did disable IPv6, and have OpenDNS + Google DNS right now, as an attempted fix.

How do I delete MAC address?
Note I'm connected right now to my mobile hotspot.

Yes, Edge didn't work with firewall &/or UAC enabled/disabled.

EDIT: regfix must have reset TCP/IP, trying again now with IPv6 off + DNS.
My network connections is now only showing Wifi, no ethernet (which I rarely use)

Ok, I just opened PortableApps chromium, and ran the network troubleshooter.

It showed the following, which I'm positive it hasn't shown before.

    Details about network security diagnosis:
Settings that might be blocking the connection:
    Provider name: simplewall
    Provider description: simplewall
Filter name: Block all outbound connections

Note I was running Simplewall, but haven't for some time.
I used Binisoft WFC instead, everything was working fine.
    After uninstalling WFC problems started.
