    Various BSODs, Crashes and Freezes

    Hello.

Ive been experiencing a number of different crashes, freezes and BSOD's and im not entirely sure of the cause.

    Examples of BSODs ive encountered: Interrupt_Exception_Not_Handled, Page_Fault_In_Nonpaged_Area, Kmode_Exception_Not_Handled, System_Service_Exception, Dpc_Watchdog_Violation, Kernel_Security_Check_Failure. Probably many more.

Nvidia graphic drivers are up to date and i always do a 'Clean Install' through custom installation. Windows is up to date.

Ive run Windows memory diagnostic with no errors, and antimalwarebyte with no objects found.

It only happens when i play games (as far as i can recall), notably titels that frequently crashes or BSODs: Overwatch, Fractured Space, Heroes of the Storm and Battlefield 1.

The thing is in Overwatch, for an example, it doesnt seem to matter which video settings my game is at, it can be low or ultra, but if i uncap my fps through the options menu its basically a guaranteed crash within 10min, even though im at 160+ fps and gpu temp around 65 celsius. CPU temp also seem to be stable around 50-60. Capping fps at 60 does help but i do still sometimes experience crashes and BSODs too.

Anyone mind taking a look and see if they can figure out where my problems at?

    Thank you.

    EDIT:
Im currently playing a lot of Fractured Space and usually i experienced game crashes 1-2 times per game and frequent BSODs, but after turning on Vsync through the options menu to force 60 fps it seem to have stabilized the game somewhat. Does this give any clue into the issues?

    PC Specs:

    Asus Maximus VII Ranger

    i7-4790K

    Kingston HyperX Beast DDR3-2400 QC

    Corsair RM Series RM650

    Samsung 850 EVO 120gb

    Samsung 850 EVO 250gb

    WD Black 1tb

    Gigabyte 970 G1 Gaming

Windows 10 64bit Anniversary Update (Clean install, not upgrade)

    Running with XMP profile.

  2. Various Program Crashes and BSODs

    Hi,

This issue is likely caused by a hardware failure. To isolate the issue, try to remove each RAM stick and see which one is causing the problem. This could also fall with your graphics card but we have no way of testing without testing a different graphics
card since your motherboard doesn't have an integrated graphics processor.

If the issue persists, we suggest contacting your device manufacturer for further hardware support.

Get back to us if you need further assistance.

  3. Various Program Crashes and BSODs

    Hi Justine,

    Thanks for the reply!

So since your reply I've looked into the hardware, and it does turn out that one of the RAM sticks was essentially dead-on-arrival. The weirdest thing to me was that the system would POST properly, but the programs within the OS and the system itself would
have problems. Upon testing with one RAM stick, everything worked properly. However, when testing the other RAM stick, the system wouldn't POST properly, with the Q-code on the motherboard displaying either '54' or '62' (I also recall '46').

I have issued a replacement and received new RAM sticks, and everything seems to be working fine now.

    Thanks again for your help!

I dont think i actually installed anything from any of those programs and they have been promptly removed. Was just curious and wanted to see which drivers they would show or maybe they could at least give a hint at where my potential issues were originating from.

Ive updated my system specs, though it does say i have both Realtek High Definition Audio and NVIDIA High Definition Audio. Not sure whether this is normal or not.

Are the firmware of your SSDs up to date?

Please uninstall everything of Nvidia using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from Nvidia. Be sure the clean install box is checked and only install the Graphics driver and the PhysX driver, you can use this tutorial for the installation part *Arrow NVIDIA Drivers - Avoid Problems - Windows 7 Help Forums

Done and done. I always check the 'Clean Installation' checkbox every time i update nvidia drivers. The weird thing is, it showed, on the installation menu, that the nvidia hd sound wasnt installed in the first place and that i only had the physx and graphic driver installed. Anyhow, everything has been removed and proper drivers reinstalled. I tried the SystemInfo.exe again and now nvidia hd sound has been removed and replaced with a Microsoft HD audio, which im guessing is just a default windows driver.

    SSDs are up to date.
Should i just wait and see if my issues persist at this point?

Yes, there is no use in keep trying things while we don't know if anything has fixed the problem or made it worse (happens sometimes)

Okay, ill report back later tonight or tomorrow and see if i still got issues. I think i can somewhat force it to see whether this fixed it or not.

To give a quick update, i havent had a whole lot of time to test if the issues persist in the last couple of days, but the games that i have played have been with a bit mixed result. Im still experiencing game crashes when i uncap the fps and turning on vsync or forcing the game to run with 60 fps still seem to stabilize them. On the good note, i havent yet encountered any BSODs for a while, but it would be nice to be able to play them without having to force the limited fps.

    Good to hear *Smile

Unfortunately I'm very limited when it comes to troubleshooting an issue in/with a game *Sad

  12. Samael Win User
I'm not convinced that its something wrong with the games since its not just limited to only 1 game, thats why im mentioning it here more specifically since im not sure where the issue is originating from and i thought that it was somewhat related to the BSOD issues. This is just where im seeing the problems, so i was hoping you could gather anything from it. Ill keep testing though for a couple more days and see if any BSODs pops back out.

I cannot say what it could possibly be, but my first suspicious would be settings from the GPU software.

You mean from the Nvidia control panel? I havent touched that thing at all *Sad
I think the only display fiddling ive done is installing flux which reduces the blue colors on my screen to make it easier on the eyes, but im fairly certain that the crashing have been occurring for longer than ive had flux installed.

I mean the Nvidia control panel indeed, or Geforce Experience *Smile

Just to let you know, unless it is something you have noticed that shows up before a BSOD occured it is not related to a BSOD.
