Venerable Thinkpad T430 no speakers after 1709?

*cry perplexing. My pristine thinkpad T430's Realtek High Def audio seems installed right, no bangs, no obvious errors, but with version1709 build 16299.64 Pro, no sound emerges from speakers. Was good before now - very good in fact.
Using the built in test facilities, nothing appears to be wrong except there is no sound at all.

if I plug the headphones in, everything's good. With the Realtek driver [last updated May of 2015, windows Catalog], plugging and unplugging headphones shows no change in the control panel or popup: that is, there is no indication of the headphones in use, even when that is the case: still shows "speakers". If I switch the audio device to the Microsoft generic HD device, it will reflect the distinction between headphones/speakers, but speakers still not producing a peep. headphones ok.

is there some other bit of driver-ware that I need to be looking at? All help greatly appreciated.

    c

    :)

  2. Updated to Win10. Cannot Detect Speakers in 2nd display.

I have a Thinkpad T430 hooked up to a Samsung TV. Before the upgrade, I was able to choose which speakers to use (Default speakers on laptop or Samsung TV Speakers). After upgrading to Windows 10, the only sound comes through my laptop speaker. My laptop
does not detect the speakers in the TV even though both my laptop and monitor seem to be working well.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

This is not an unheard of event, Microsoft sometimes makes a slight improvement to windows that affects the way that a driver has to be written to operate, this is not done often as they have rules that they follow to minimise these outages,

Although the Microsoft OEM partners are kept up to date the issue arrives when the hardware manufacturer does not re-write the driver for their hardware in time for the update to windows (most are reactive not proactive).

Only thing I can suggest is that you check with the manufacturer's site to see if they have a suitable replacement driver available, it will eventually be added to the windows catalogue but this may take a while.

you may have some luck trying the Realtek site for drivers as they write the base code for laptop manufacturers to use, modified, for their hardware

You probably already tried this, but uninstall the device thru Device manager, including the drivers, reboot and let Windows reinstall it. Fairly quick and worth a shot.

well - I should have done this b4 posting: I pulled the battery, held the power button for awhile, reinstalled, rebooted. now working.
wish I knew the Why, but works using the generic driver. About to give it a shot with the realtek driver.

    The HW ID is HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0269&SUBSYS_17AA21F3
