Windows 10: Verification of childs account not working

My child has had a microsoft account for a couple of years, but when trying to play some local multiplayer minecraft java games together, we found that she can't join. No obvious fixes have worked, now I've found that in our account settings there's a problem with her account.At the top of the screen it has a message:"******* needs to sign in again on Windows ******* to verify their account."When I click "Fix it" I get this set of instructions: "Family features may not work properly if your child’s account is not verified. Child's account password and verification

Hi! I cannot access my child's account because we forgot the password. The verification factors are old and not available. How do I change the phone number and email used to verify my child's account?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I did the following instead.

I have another laptop, 2 weeks old, with Windows 10 Home on it.

On that one, I tried the same steps with the child account, and got the exact same results.
