Windows 10: Very low wifi reception when disconnected. Improves a little once connected.

Out of nowhere my HP Folio 9470m laptop started to have very low wifi reception. Even when I'm right next to my router, like 10 inches from it, I barely get one or two bars. I know it's not the router because I live in an apartment complex and the laptop is not detecting any of the multiple wifi connections from my neighbors.


Now here's the funny thing, once I manage to finally connect to my wifi, the reception improves immediately (Not perfect as before, though) and it even detects some of my neighbors connections.


I have not touched anything recently, it happened pretty much overnight. Already tried setting Roaming Aggressiveness to Highest, Transmit Power to Highest (Was the default actually), checked the wifi driver, checked power saving settings, and boot to Safe Mode.


My last hope is to reinstall Windows but I'd really like to avoid this as I would have to reinstall everything again and my internet is super expensive where I live since I get charged like a dollar per GB.

Disconnected from Ethernet, WiFi still connected

For the past 6 months I have had terrible internet issues, there was a problem within my area according to Virgin Media which was resolved 2 months ago. However occasionally I still get disconnected, but my Wifi stays on.

My PC is connected to the router via 2 powerline adapters. All devices which are connected to router wirelessly are fine and have a consistent high-quality connection. Whereas my PC has an inconsistent and sometimes low-quality connection. My speeds however remain optimal, around 46 Mbps download / 2.92 Mbps upload. The quality however is sub-par:






Sometimes I have around 2 - 10% packet loss.
Any ideas on why the PC connection isn't perfect whereas the Wifi connections are?

There are number of reasons for a poor WiFi signal reception. Check out these few simple troubleshooting steps and see if it would help:

• Try to bring your device closer to your wireless router and check for any improvements.
• Try to reset your WiFi router, disconnect and reconnect.
• Check for updates on your Network Card driver.

Keep us posted if any of these troubleshooting steps works.
