Hi Doug. I believe this is a driver issue.

Please head to your manufacture site and download the driver they have on file.

Then open device and get the driver version number you are currently using. Install the manufacturer driver, Confirn version number has changed. Test.

  3. Just downloaded the manufactures driver. Went to install and got a message stating that a more current version is installed...should I unistall the current driver to install the older one? If I remember correctly I had the same issue with that driver....

You can manually install. When you update pick browse my computer.

If you know for sure that you had issue not much point in doing.

Have you tried a different channel on router. Why this started now I can't answer but if you live in a densely populated area a neighbour could have bought or got a new router that is now conflicting with yours.

  5. Not densely populated area, everyone is on 5 acres. Only network that shows up is ours. Modem was on channel 1, switched it to auto.

  6. For what it is worth....I just opened up my Linux machine and put it where I could watch it. Logged onto Facebook. Logged onto Facebook with my Dell as well. And waited. Only took 15 seconds or so and the chat area faded out and got the can't connect to chat message on my Dell, but not on the other one. I also checked to see if the Dell was on the wifi still.....it was....

  7. Interesting, definitely not interference from another router. 5 acres, very nice.

Did you shut off "Allow this computer to shut off device to save power" ?

Find the adapter in device manager, right click, click properties, power management tab, remove check mark.

As well please make sure wireless is set at max power in advance power options

Start > Settings > System > Power and sleep > on right click Additional Power setting > click change plan settings link for plan you are using > click Change advance power settings> then expand Wireless Adapter settings. Set to maximum performance

  9. I did "uninstall" the network adapter and removed the drivers. Reinstalled the Dell drivers and the adapter...no help.....

  10. Talk about a circle jerk. Did the online chat with Dell. Was informed that I only have a Hardware warranty, that I have a software issue. $129 to "fix" a software problem. Half tempted to dig out my Windows 10 disc on just wipe this thing clean....

  11. First I know this isn't a fix and that adapter is not that old but....

One thing that gets you around these issues is a USB WI-fi dongle and they aren't priced all that bad.

So you went to supplier site and you got driver and that didn't work. Are you running the Intel Proset software? If so I might ditch it and try again.

I have an Intel Ac7260 and it runs with one driver and one driver only, Feb 2014.

Maybe try an even older driver from Intel.

Bought a cheap TrendNet TEW-805UB at Fry's this weekend (AC1200). $25. Doubled my son's wireless Internet speed compared to the ASUS-AC56 dongle he was using (also AC1200, ironically enough). The newer hardware really seems to be noticeably faster, all else held equal (same WAP, same Internet connection, same sites accessed). Here's my blog post on this adventure: Time Boosts (New) Wireless Hardware Throughput - Ed Tittel.

I will try the USB dongle, and an older driver. I posted this on the MS forum. Was told to reset the machine. Well....8 hours later and needless to say the problem persists....about ready to scream.

  14. Couple of questions. Only USB WIFI dongle I could find in Spokane yesterday was a Netgear N600. I purchased it. Of course drivers were on a DVD and my machine doesn't have a drive. Luckily my machine still gets online when hard wired. I did install a driver for the Intel adapter from June 2017. My laptop now has fits....go to boot and it stops, saying there is some sort of problem and to be patient. The old driver didn't help, problem persists. Actually, it may have helped as I have yet to see Facebook chat disconnect but it is now beyond slow. I was able to access 4 different web pages with my wifes laptop while my laptop had not even logged onto the first one.
First question, to I just go into the device manager and disable the Intel adapter so there is no conflict between the Intel adapter and the USB WIFI adapter?
Second question....is this pile-o-junk Intel adapter replaceable?
Third question......does Windows 8 have any difficulties with this Intel wifi adapter? I have a full 64 bit version of Windows 8 and I am seriously thinking about installing it.....about ready to toss this thing into the nearby lake...

  15. If you got over boot issue that is great. If not it then you likely have some hidden adapters in device manager and you have to delete them. Go into device manager, open network adapters, show hidden devices using menu item View.

For your Intel adapter there should be some sort of on off switch within your device. Some have a physical switch on side / front, some it is a key within F keys. Some can be disabled within BIOS.

Yes the adapter is replaceable. Find your device on youtube by searching disassemble XXXX. You could be very fortunate and it will just be under cover on bottom.

My bet is it will work very nicely in windows 8. Not sure what it is in 10, the advance protocols, power mgmt but there seems to be some issues with wireless adapters.

When you search disassemble instructions again you will see how to remove HDD. Might be worth using a spare drive with 8 so you can just reinstall 10 drive if test fails.
