Windows 10: VGA to USB3 adapter not working properly- no video output

using an ibuypower pre-built gaming PC with this processor: 11th Gen IntelR CoreTM i7-11700F @ 2.50GHz. Can give additional specs if you tell me what you need to know and how I can find it. I don't know the exact make and model of the monitor aside from it being an Acer, but when looking at the details tab in the device manager, I can see the driver is dated 2006- apparently windows considers this up to date. I'm trying to set up a second monitor, but it's an old acer that only has analog display options. My mom has been using this monitor without issue using a VGA to USB3 adapter on her l

• Reduce radio frequency interference by moving the adapter away from microwave ovens, cordless phones, and other common household electronics.
• Move your device closer to the adapter. For best performance, your device should be within 23 feet of your HDTV, monitor, or projector.
• If you don't have enough room to plug the adapter into the HDMI port on your second screen, use the HDMI extension cable that was included with your adapter. Plugging the adapter into the HDMI port at an angle can cause issues with the video quality.
• Download higher-quality video.

USB3 to VGA adapter working under Admin but not User account (Win10)

Kia ora (hello) I am trying to extend my desktop (Windows 10) to an external monitor via a USB3-to-VGA adapter. I have installed the drivers ('dongle' is a generic one - installed with 'Windows7-Windows10_2.0.2.exe'), rebooted the PC and find that the adapter is recognised (Settings/Devices: 'usb extscreen', Device Manager: 'XXX USB Display') under both User and Admin accounts, but 'Windows USB Display' is not listed in the Standard profile applications startup settings, while it is in the Admin profile.

In the Admin account, the external display is recognised and can be used as a second screen, but under the User account the display isn't recognised ?!?!?

Seems like a permissions thing, but I don't know what to do do. Any suggestions ?

Universal Adapter not working with VGA Switcher

It looks like your original adapter output is 24 watts and the universal is 18 watts.... Check the label on the device for power requirements or check your polarity on the universal adapter (that may be reversed)

There should be a polarity diagram on the device near the input plug.
