Via bootup screen, unable to choose which services startup

It seems Microsoft has eliminated a feature I once used prolifically: Hardware Profiles. Windows-10 does have a "hardware profile", but it is nothing like what was in XP (or in Win-7, as I understand it). I want to know if there is an alternative in Windows-10 that allows me to control which Services are enabled or disabled from one session to the next, based on the currently selected profile (XP also had User Profile, but that's a different beast, and that still seems to exist in Win-10).

In the older O/S'es (XP, 2ooo, and NT for sure), you could set up multiple "hardware profiles" (silly name because it related as much to controlling Services as it did to controlling Devices). You give each profile a name, and set which one is the default startup if you let the screen time out. This is like the timeout in a multi-boot menu, and it's a menu that comes up right after the O/S menu if you are multi-booted. If you're single boot, it comes up at that same moment in the boot process.

Then, in the properties dialog for an individual Service, in the Logon tab (if I recall correctly, or maybe it was a "Startup" tab), those profile names you made will show up as a list allowing you to set enable at bootup or disable at bootup for each profile in that list.

Am I to understand that this cannot be done under Win-10 ? !!
    Is there a workaround?
    A third party utility?
    A registry tweak?

    :)

  2. Can't access BIOS settings via F2 key in Windows 10

Original title: Access to ASUS Laptop BIOS

Have recently joined the Insiders program running Build 11099.rs1.

I now find that i am unable to access the computer BIOS settings via the usual F2 key at bootup.

The boot continues straight into W10 after the ASUS startup screen.

The laptop is an ASUS K53U.

    Any ideas guys?

  3. MSConfig in Win10 breaks startup recovery (Safe mode etc)

After running MSConfig on Windows 10 (any version including the latest anniversary update) and making any changes to startup services, booting into recovery options no longer allows me to get to the 'Startup' menu (The menu with the Safe mode options where
you choose a number). It boots straight past it back into normal Windows startup. It no longer boots to the startup selection screen after choosing to startup with that screen in the recovery options.

The only way to get into safe mode is by using MSConfig and the only way to get back to normal startup is also with MSConfig.

This occurred before the anniversary update but after doing an in-place-upgrade with the anniversary update I was then able to enter recovery and select Startup options under troubleshooting and it did indeed boot into the startup selection screen. However.
Upon running MSConfig, making a few changes like disabling a service or app and applying it I was then unable to get that menu ever again.

Can anyone confirm that making changes in MSConfig in Windows 10 causes the loss of the startup screen once selected and rebooted from the recovery options?
