Windows 10: Video thumbnails not appearing on Windows 10

A few months back the thumbnails for my video files .mp4 stopped appearing and now just appear as the stock video icon after I believe I downloaded and installed WinRAR. However, my image files .jpg, .png, and .gif are still fine. Over time, sometimes when I have downloaded a video or gif, suddenly the videos in my downloads folder would be restored and after I placed some videos in the video folder, they were restored too. However, this was not the case for videos in other folders that I have that I primarily use. Today I had a lot of videos in my downloads folder with thumbnails but afte

Hello,

System file corruption is one of the possible reasons why thumbnail preview has recently disappeared. To better assist you, please answer the following:

• For clarification, are referring to video preview thumbnails when using File Explorer?
  
• We would like to verify if you are referring to the Fall Creators Update. To see your
  Windows build and version, please follow the steps in this
  article.
  

In the meantime, we suggest creating a Test User Profile. This is to see if the same issue occurs on a different user profile.

To create a Test User Profile, follow these steps:

• On Search, type Settings then hit the
  Enter key.
• On Settings window, select Accounts.
• Select Family & other people.
  
• Select Add someone else to this PC.
• Name the User Profile as TEST.
• Assign a password for TEST user, then select Next.
• Sign in TEST user.

We'll be waiting on the results.

OneDrive Video Thumbnails

I am baffled (and dismayed) at the lack of functionality contained within the basic OneDrive setup. It appears impossible to change the thumbnail generated upon upload of the video to my personal OneDrive (and, to add insult to injury, OneDrive replaces the thumbnail that was present on my Windows10 computer). While the capability to pick a thumbnail appears to be present in Microsoft Sharepoint and Microsoft Stream, it does not appear to be available to the OneDrive user.

I have tried a number of workarounds to try and resolve this issue - but no avail

Any suggestions to resolve this issue, greatly appreciated!
