Windows 10: VIDEO_TDR_TIMEOUT_DETECTED 117 error after a clean Nvidia driver install

So I was noticing my laptop's TDP wall being lower than designed 165 W -> 145 W. I thought it might be because I was using a Studio Driver, so I went to Nvidia's website and downloaded the latest Game Ready Driver for my laptop.But the abnormal TDP wall is still there. And after using my laptop for a few hours no heavy task run, it suddenly started to lag tremendously: the music was playing, but the mouse wouldn't move. After a sec or so the mouse pointer would jump to another location then freeze. I pressed Ctrl + Alt + Del to launch Task Manager, in hope to find which app is draining

HD 4870 BCCode: 117 Error

I got the error since i overcvlocked my CPU.
But CPU works great stable (14h @Prime95).

The error appears when running 3d applications (games and benchs).

I always got one of these errors

The error code indicates, "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)". We need to reinstall the device driver manually. I suggest you to refer the steps for
Code 28 mentioned in the article
Error codes in Device Manager in Windows and see if that helps.



You can try to run NVidia Auto-Detect and see if that helps you in installing the NVidia drivers. You can run NVidia Auto-Detect from
NVidia website. You can also check for the pending updates on the computer and install them. Please refer the section

If the issue persists, I suggest you to try the steps mentioned below to install the drivers:

1. Press Windows key + X and select
   Device Manager.
   
2. Right click on the NVidia driver and select
   Update Driver.
   
3. Click on Browser my computer for driver software.
   
4. Now, click on Let me pick from a list.
   
5. Select the NVidia MX250 driver and click on
   Next.
   
6. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
   
7. Restart the computer once the driver is installed.

Windows Hardware Error LiveKernelEvent Error 117

Thanks so much Ed for your insight. Its very much appreciated.
There had been a few - meaning three, of these Hardware Errors, all error 117.
The first time the error happened, I had the previous NVIDIA driver version installed.
The second and third times the error happened, the "most recent version" available at that time was installed.
Now a newer version is available. As you say, the NVIDIA drivers come and go so quickly... and if they become more frequent, it'll take a stable driver through the trial and error method.

P.S. a lot of dust was cleaned out the other day on the fan fins of the full length NVIDIA card. After making certain it was properly seated, I fired up the PC with the monitor connected. That's when the third hardware error occurred. Go figure.
