My list was titled Some of video and audio file formats you can open with Windows Movie Maker. List of all supported file types can easily be found on the Internet. Screenshot from What kind of files can I use in Movie Maker? - Windows Help:

Other than flying to Maryland where the OP lives according to his profile to do this for him, I really have not a faintest clue what more information is expected, in what other way I could tell this? Some own initiative is although not obligatory but highly recommended *Wink.

Original question: How to adjust the brightness of OP's video files (or using his words, how to lighten too dark videos)?

Answer, as already given in post #6 of this thread: Download and install Windows Movie Maker, use its Visual Effects > Brightness tool

I really did as much research on my own as I could. I have spent a week about 2-3 hours a day trying.
I also did try WMM and it said I need codecs and would not work but was not clear as to what or where to get them. I saw mention of the K lite pack etc but am new to this and it is not as ez for me as some of you who are more experienced.
Most of the free programs turned out to be only trials when you download them -many are come ons.
I have areas where I am ok with the pc and when I help a person who is new to something, I remember when I first started.
I have burned the files to disc as is.

If the Movie Maker cannot open your .mov files, they are not standard .mov files. In that case simply convert the files to for example .avi and then open them in Movie Maker.
