My settings are now in text format. I don't see an obvious way back to the icon view. The text view retains the original positions so it is not in alphabetical order-
I don't think I made a change to have text only- but I cannot find a way back.
Is there a place where the format of this pane is stored?

    :)

  2. How can I prevent users from seeing the Start Menu in Windows 10

Local restrictions require that users not be able to view or use the items in the Start Menu. We accomplished this in Windows 7. We upgraded Windows 7 Professional to Windows 10 Professional. We had hoped that all settings would be maintained after
the upgrade. However, clicking on the Start Button now shows the contents of the Start Menu. Is there an available setting that would prevent this?

There is Tablet and non Tablet format. Helps to see a picture of what you are talking about. Majority of people are using either Classic Shell or Start 10, because you do not need a laptop or desktop to be a tablet.

The Settings app does that if you make the window too small, it automatically adjusts to make the best use of the space available. Make it wider and it will have room for the icons.

Aaargh....I acquired a new monitor which in its hdmi settings in the 2400 wide range has me reduce open windows. I had become accustomed to locating the update section in the second row in the previous 1900 resolution.
Now if I open this Settings view in full screen the actual content is a bit of lonely blip in the middle of the white screen <grin>
Too bad they couldn't have put the stuff in alphabetical order <lol!>

Play around with the size of the Settings app's window until you find a size that suits you. As I said, the icons adjust dynamically to suit the size of the window. For a large screen you may also find it useful to adjust the size of 'text, apps and other items' to more than the default 100% in Settings > Display.

I never go with Native Resolution on some monitors, because it is too small when you really think about it. I have my Macbook set at 1280x800, which I have done with the monitor I have in my son's room that I use for working on at times. I have also found that backlighting the monitor with a low wattage warm (pink tone) CFL or LED, helps a lot in stopping eye strain, even in a lit room. If you think that your room is too bright and making the monitor look wrong. Try 6500k CFL's. You can get them up to 100 watt and they are a whole lot brighter than LED's.

You can tell that I have not come across that, along with have been away from Windows 10 way too long. So used to that being more on the side of mode, not the other. Personally I do like the first screenshot better instead of the second one for the window. Especially if you are working with two monitors and want to have two windows up at once with the System Window.

bro67-The monitor is calibrated according to the room and it is at 80 lux....that is close to the lowest I think - and its for photography tasks. This resolution took a little getting used to but I'm on to it after a month.I could have the 1920 wide if I used dvi versus the hdmi setting. All software does not scale its menu text crisply in this hdmi. I have ended up with small windows and a full view of that Settings is ridiculous on a 27 inch monitor, obviously the contents scale <LOL!>
I have an LED type light in a desk lamp but I'll check out the CfL.

Try the LED and CFL for backlighting behind the monitor. Yes it is a pain if you are trying to do different things. There are third party app's that you can use that will allow you to set a different resolution for what you need. It does take time to get used to changes on monitors, because all of us have some kind of abnormality with our eyes, such as flaking from the pigment and other stuff.

I deal with having implanted lenses from Cataract Surgery and also the flaking, which makes everything over 10 feet look like it has rays coming off if it is the tv or headlights.
