    Hello,

I am ready to buy a new laptop after my last HP 15. It is getting slower and slower and I think it is time for an upgrade.

OK, so here are some of my thoughts:

    ASUS
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-15-...&skuId=4831500

    Toshiba Satellite Radius 14 E45W-C4200X
    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/toshiba-...&skuId=4203501

Is the Toshiba any good? ASUS any good? I am on a budget between $300 and $400. Nothing higher, just something I can use here and there and trips like in hotels, on the road, etc.

So what do you guys think I should do? I will be (maybe) buying one this Friday, June 3, 2016, (along with some CD's *Wink Ask me if you'd like, anyway haha) I am trying to decide which one to get, but I torn. The ASUS is cheap and looks very nice (love the eye candy it has) and I have heard very good things about them, I even have an ASUS motherboard and is very well built. Now, the Toshiba looks nice, but have read mixed reviews on it. I would like to hear some people who have had experience with these similar laptops and tech people, and would love to hear opinions from anyone really! *Biggrin

    Thanks! C.C.

    :)

  2. Sign the petition?!

so karim, will we see Nokia act on the results or was the poll just posted for a bit of fun to gauge everyones view on this subject?

i mentioned earlier that Series 60 version 3, feature release 1 has the ability to have the F/W updated by the user so will we see this option included in future handsets? even if only a small number of people wanted to do this by themselves, it would still
    save nokia time and money?

    Hi Rich!

This poll isnt just a bit of fun, I was hoping to stimulate a bit of discussion on the subject. The results from the poll are interesting, it is not the landslide that many people who visit here were expecting. With on %59 of people actively seeking firmware
updates this still leaves a large group of owners who would require some assistance on updating their firmware, with two days to go the results could change either way. And again, this only gauges the opinion of people who visit these discussion boards - there
will be many many Nokia owners who have not read this post.

But, this poll isnt the official Nokia standpoint of firmware installation. The poll and this thread are what you, the users think and feel.

Carry on and make posts here to discuss this, and feel free to make a vote. The poll will close on Friday afternoon. I will collate the results and put them in this thread for further discussion.

    Cheers

    -

    Karim

I just bought my daughter and ASUS Transformer similar to this but it has 6 gb RAM and Windows 10 pre-installed:
    ASUS Flip R554LA-RH31T 15.6" 2-in-1 Laptop Computer - Black R554LA-RH31T - Micro Center

So far it has been a great computer that both her and I like.

My wife has a Toshiba 15.6" Touchscreen laptop. I hate it. It is slower than molasses. I won't ever buy another Toshiba.

My HP Pavilion DV-6 17.3" laptop was refurbished when I bought it. It has and continues to be a workhorse. Been around the world on Navy ships and in the Middle East dessert with me, it's beat to heck, but still going strong!

  5. I have had Toshiba laptops for the last 4 years and would never change,
Have several of them at the moment though out the family and friends.
I find mine very fast and never had any trouble,
If I was to get another laptop I would go for the same again

  6. I have an ASUS K75DE and love it. Excellent quality IMHO. ASUS tech support sucks big time though. Luckily I only had one minor software issue. Trying to get any kind of meaningful response from them was like pulling nails though.

Is there any tech support that doesn't? other than EVGA, who don't make laptops, I don't know of any that are worth calling.

True enough. I've only ever tried to contact ASUS and didn't want to brand them all with the same iron.

  9. I have never had to call Toshiba at all but have been on their forum and what I have seen and read they seem to be on top of it

Asus Transformer T100 would be my choice.
Came close to buying it, but financial matter said otherwise.

I've had an ACER laptop, a Lenovo and now a Toshiba. I tried to contact ACER and it was a lost cause, and luckily I figured out the problem and was able to resolve it. The Lenovo was an early i5 and came with Win 7, but was able to be upgraded to Win 10. I gave it to my daughter and it is working OK for her. I think if there is a next time it will not be a Toshiba. The Toshiba came with Win 8.1, touch screen, and is an i7 but a "slow" i7 and Toshiba has disabled the Stereo Mix function in audio (common complaint from what I find). I should have sent the Toshiba back.

I didn't really shop around, because it was kind of an "emergency" purchase. I got it at the Navy Exchange, so did not pay any sales tax.

Intel i3-4005U CPU @ 1.7 GHZ, 6 GB RAM, 500 GB HDD, Windows 10 Home. $399 out the door.

Toshiba quality has gone dramatically downhill. They are cheapening up the things so much, they have to put weights in the base so the laptops don't fall backwards when you open them. Plus, the bloatware is over-the-top now.

ASUS is much better, but the tech support is exceptionally poor.

Can you swing a little bit more cash?

    Amazon.com: ASUS F556UA-AS54 15.6-inch Full-HD Laptop (Core i5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD) with Windows 10, Icicle Gold: Computers Accessories

This is a super deal for a really nice, non-gaming system.

  15. I have owned both azuse and toshiba.
I would gear toward toshiba. They have little things that can help you recover in a bad situation.
Azuse is not as user friendly
