As far as when you'll update to Windows 10, what category do you belong?

    • Early adopter (asap),
    • Early majority (wait a while), or
    • Late majority (wait for the first 'major' update)
Will you sign-in with a MS account or a local account?

Does your machine meet the requirements to update? The poll has those and more options.

swarfega asked: What is Redstone Q1 2016? (thanks swarfega)

Microsoft plans 'Redstone' updates for Windows 10 in 2016 | The Verge

Really1 asked: How do you get the Win10 RTM ISO? Edwin supplied a very good answer (thanks Really1 & Edwin)

Microsoft might create a new tool for Windows 10 ISO downloads similar to the Windows Media Creation tool for Win8.x. See OPTION ONE in the EightForums tutorial:
Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 ISO - Download or Create
It would be nice if a new tool was created that had a product selection (Win7, Win8.x, Win10). As it is today, there are two different vehicles to download an ISO - a new tool could incorporate all three and include some validation checking.
    • Windows 7 ISO: Microsoft Software Recovery
Note: This vehicle requires a valid product key to download the ISO
    • Windows 8.x ISO: Create installation media for Windows 8.1
Note: This vehicle allows you to download the ISO without supplying a product key. The key is validated when you install the product. (If Win8.x came pre-installed on your machine, the key should be embedded in Firmware. the install will look htere first for a valid key. If you installed Win8.0 using a Retail DVD and upgraded to Win 8.1 you will have to enter the key located on the packaging - the 8.0 key will work to perform a clean install from the Win8.1 ISO)
    • Windows 10 ISO: ?????
The process for acquiring an ISO for Win10 RTM is unknown at this time.
*Start10 - I plan on waiting until the Windows 10 - Redstone Q1 2016 release to update my main machine.

    • After Windows has been updated to Windows 10, I'll create an ISO and clean install.
    • I'll sign-in to the machine using a Local account.
    • Non-essential services will be turned off.
    • Non-essential applications will be uninstalled or disabled.
    • Full screen Start - frequently used apps will be pinned to the Taskbar
    • Windows search is preferred over Cortana
    • Control panel cmdlets will be resurrected or reinstated from Win8.1 and pinned to Start and the Taskbar
    • IE 11 and Media Player will be turned off in Programs & Features > Turn Windows Features on or off
    • Chrome, Pale Moon or some other browser is preferred over Edge
    • OneDrive will only occasionally be used to easily share objects with friends and family.
    • Windows Essential Mail will be my default Mail client.
    • I'll connect Windows Store, OneDrive, and Office Online to my Local account.

That's about it - then it's run Windows as usual.

    :)

  2. Sign the petition?!

so karim, will we see Nokia act on the results or was the poll just posted for a bit of fun to gauge everyones view on this subject?

i mentioned earlier that Series 60 version 3, feature release 1 has the ability to have the F/W updated by the user so will we see this option included in future handsets? even if only a small number of people wanted to do this by themselves, it would still
    save nokia time and money?

    Hi Rich!

This poll isnt just a bit of fun, I was hoping to stimulate a bit of discussion on the subject. The results from the poll are interesting, it is not the landslide that many people who visit here were expecting. With on %59 of people actively seeking firmware
updates this still leaves a large group of owners who would require some assistance on updating their firmware, with two days to go the results could change either way. And again, this only gauges the opinion of people who visit these discussion boards - there
will be many many Nokia owners who have not read this post.

But, this poll isnt the official Nokia standpoint of firmware installation. The poll and this thread are what you, the users think and feel.

Carry on and make posts here to discuss this, and feel free to make a vote. The poll will close on Friday afternoon. I will collate the results and put them in this thread for further discussion.

    Cheers

    -

    Karim

  3. Read this if you use Windows XP 64

we ran a poll when the boards first started in Nov '05. It didnt include windows xp 64bit, but it did show that 82% of the voters used windows xp. I dont think I can create a poll here that will contrast phone usage over operating system choice.

I have a dual boot Win 7/Win 8.1 on separate SSD's, on my recording studio system. First thing I'll do is make a complete drive backup of the Win 8.1 drive. I plan on upgrading the Win 8.1 installations, as is. I won't be upgrading the Win 7 installation due to a local requirement for a USB/RS232C interface that will only work in Win 7.

I have a backup desktop for my recording studio. It is basically configured the same as the primary system so I'll do the same thing, upgrade the 8.1 as is. This system also has the Win 10 Preview and that will be dumped after the 8.1 is upgraded.

I have a Laptop with Win 7 on it. That will probably be upgraded to 10, but after the desktops are done and everything settled.

  6. any chance you can make the poll multi choice

laptop - updating immediately on day one
tablet - no current plans staying with 8.1

    for laptop
    remove MSN apps and candycrush
pin most used programs to taskbar, and least used on desktop
remove Cortana and task switch from toolbar
    set IE as default browser

that's it at the moment for customising

  7. I will dual boot Win 7 Ultimate and upgrade my Win 8.1 Pro that I don't use on two separate SSD's. If I like Win 10 to use as my only operating system I will pull the Win 7 SSD.

I plan on upgrading Win 8.1.1 on my desktop to Win 10. I also plan on dual booting Win 10TP. I'm still undecided what I'm going to do with my laptops. I got my wife hooked on Win10 so I'll be upgrading her laptop also.
