so karim, will we see Nokia act on the results or was the poll just posted for a bit of fun to gauge everyones view on this subject?

i mentioned earlier that Series 60 version 3, feature release 1 has the ability to have the F/W updated by the user so will we see this option included in future handsets? even if only a small number of people wanted to do this by themselves, it would still
    save nokia time and money?

    Hi Rich!

This poll isnt just a bit of fun, I was hoping to stimulate a bit of discussion on the subject. The results from the poll are interesting, it is not the landslide that many people who visit here were expecting. With on %59 of people actively seeking firmware
updates this still leaves a large group of owners who would require some assistance on updating their firmware, with two days to go the results could change either way. And again, this only gauges the opinion of people who visit these discussion boards - there
will be many many Nokia owners who have not read this post.

But, this poll isnt the official Nokia standpoint of firmware installation. The poll and this thread are what you, the users think and feel.

Carry on and make posts here to discuss this, and feel free to make a vote. The poll will close on Friday afternoon. I will collate the results and put them in this thread for further discussion.

    Cheers

    -

    Karim

If you're just polling every X minutes this is the normal behaviour.

If you want a constant connection (+ instant push), you need to use Nokia Messaging and set the polling interval to "soonest" or "after notification" (depending on the model).

I started out with various TP's on a spare HD, both clean and update installs. Eventually upgraded 8.1 with one of the last TP's and then the RTM 240 build. Finally, did a clean install of 240 for a fresh start. Probably a similar path was taken by a lot of the users here.

I first upgraded to Windows 10 so I could marry the key from Windows 8.1. I had also purchased a retail copy of Windows 10 so I used that to do a clean install. So technically I have two copies of Windows 10 now *Biggrin

Great! I didn't google enough, so I just did a fresh install of Win 10. Now my Win is not-activated. I hope that Win servers recognize my hardware keys and activate me. Used to have Win 7 Ultimate. Too lazy now to re-install Win 7 and then upgrade to Win 10

Sorry., but you have to do the upgrade over the previous OS(get it to activate) and then you can do a clean instillation. If you don't do this you're OS(win10) will not activate.

Went the same route. I got a new USB Flash Drive and loaded it with 10. Then I did a clean install.. works great so far.

  10. Going to wait for the big update in October?
If that doesn't cure my little niggles with 10 then I will do the same, I have software that took quite a while to configure to my liking, don't want to have to re install unless I really have to

Last night with the new build I created an ISO so if I want to I can do a clean install or upgrade again.

Agreed! But I am too lazy to do a Win 7 install and then a Win 10 upgrade and then download/configure/install all the software and apps. It's just too much work. And the PC is at home, which means it is used by more people than just me alone. So can't keep it in broken/semi-baked state for a long time. I will wait for a few days more and see if Win 10 activates me. Else, I will go with Win 7 + Win 10 upgrade if and only if I face issues with current installation.

Upgraded from Win 7. This is the first MS OS update I have ever done as an upgrade. All other prior moves were clean installs all the way back to Windows 3.1. This has actually gone fairly well. Just a few little things but most seem related to the graphics drivers. I do see some folder permission issues that some apps have given that the OS forced me into using my LIVE account as the user on my PC.

  15. I have a tip for you then: if you have a spare harddisk lying around I would:
    - create a Windows 10 installation USB stick or burn it to DVD
    - disconnect all your harddisk in the PC
    - only connect the spare harddisk
    - clean install your Windows 7 on this disk with the key you own
    - no need to install any updates ! (takes so much time)
    - run the setup.exe from the Windows 10 USB stick / DVD you made
    - When this clean Windows 10 is running use Produkey to find your Windows 10 key and write down this key.
    - Disconnect the spare harddisk
    - reconnect all your normal harddisks
    - activate with the key you just got
This procedure works for me View Poll Results: Type of Win X install? :)
