  2. I had used AVG with no problems since XP. But I switched to Defender because some people were reporting that their anti-viruses were having clashes with software after upgrading to Win 10. No complaints, no problems, I just wanted to avoid trouble.

ESET Smart Security and Hitman Pro on demand. When my subscription to ESET runs out, I'll be uninstalling and using Defender. I might consider Malwarebytes, but a little wary about all the various versions of it these days. I really don't like that, not sure where they, as a company, are heading.

  5. Hi:

For the record, MBAM is not an AV or a substitute for an AV. It is a specialized anti-malware application designed to provide complementary protection against certain types of malware (especially zero-hour and zero-day threats) often missed by an AV

Not sure what you mean by "various versions"?
Perhaps you refer to the different software applications from Malwarebytes corporation?
MBAM is the anti-malware product -- like your AV, it protects against the "what" of malware.
MBAE is the anti-exploit product -- it works differently, against the "how" of malware.
MBARW-BETA is a new, BETA product specifically targeting ransomware; the technology will be eventually rolled into MBAM.
Junkware Removal Tool (JRT) is currently a standalone anti-junkware tool.
MBAR-BETA is the standalone anti-rootkit product -- much of its technology is already incorporated into MBAM.

I do not work for the company and am not a software developer. The different tools have been developed to stay abreast of the changing malware landscape. However, it's my understanding that there are valid technical and other reasons for keeping some of these tools as separate, standalone products, rather than trying to roll all of them into a "suite". But I'm sure the that developers and product team members would be happy to elaborate on that better than I can, to the extent possible in a public forum, over at the Malwarebytes forums.

    Cheers,

MM (unaffiliated in any way with Malwarebytes and just a home user)

I'm using Trend Micro Internet Security 2016, along with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware Premium and Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Premium on my main computer. On my laptop I have Kapersky Internet Security 2016 along with the two Malwarebytes Premium software installation(s). I'm fairly well-protected, but I don't go to questionable sites and am very careful about what I download.

Been using Qihoo's 360 Total Security (Free version) for better than one year, and, it would be hard to get me to change, frankly. Loaded with extras, does not slow down system, effective!

    I use free versions of:

    Avast on Win 7
    Avira on Win 8.1
    Panda on Win 10 RTM
Windows Defender on Win 10 Insider

They all work fine for me.
The built in Windows Defender is the one i dislike most, it is too hard to control/configure (for me).

I think most folks here use and recommend WD, and that's fine.
I have problems with it because of what i see in Process Explorer and Task Scheduler history.
I posted about this before, and found a fix for me.
I don't think i should have to use Group Policy to control an AV program.
Maybe things have changed since then, but here's my old thread/issue/question:
Solved Build 10074 Windows Defender scheduled task scans ? - Windows 10 Forums

Everyone should use whatever works best for them.
