Now, you're just trying to start a fight. *Wink That's about the same as asking which is a better graphics card Nvidia or AMD. No. I really need a replacement for the Avast that I have installed on my Windows 7. Just the FREE ones. This is me asking. For my own use. Not trying to start an argument. I've only used Avast for the past several years and never looked at anything else until this "spying" issue.

badrobot, I was only making a joke. But working on the BSODs on Seven Forums has taught me that almost all of them paid or free cause some people problems. Although it's not the best security product, the only free one that has never caused a BSOD that I am aware of is MSE. As far as which ones are the best security, I can't tell you. To me, the best security is your surfing habits and knowing what you are downloading and from whom. That is the best security. For the products, I've tried a few, and sort of like the Kaspersky AV not internet Security though. It has some very good functions to it, but their firewall is the pits. I even had it block Windows Update once. But, the normal AV works well and causes no problems when I trialed it. How good it is, I don't know, but assume probably as good as most. None of them are perfect, which brings me back to surfing habits. Of course, I'm back to talking paid ones, which doesn't answer your question at all.

Ah those age old rivalries, Ford or Chevy, in Toronto I had "Ford only" parking sign and my neighbor "Chevy only", Hamburger or hot dog, AMD or Intel. luckily there are so many AVs to choose from. More experiences we hear, better but not easier is to choose from. My latest try will be Bitdefender, free edition. It's on top in rankings but does not look as customizable as some other ones. I'm not some kind of control freak but I like to have choices as to what, when and where is scanned, stopped or let through.

May I ask for some experiences with it ? BiteDefefener works just fine in Win10.
I've used Kapersky before and it works really well. It has PC Mags editor choice and it's what I would use if I were to spend money on any AV. I think I might download the trial today and see if it installs.

    I'll post my findings.

    Well, Kapersky did not install.
    That's a fail on the Win10 Test.

But I bet by next year it will work just fine.

MSE is perfectly fine with mbam pro/ now premium I probably wouldn't if I used the free version of mbam *Wink
I've used this same combo for 4-5 years
With a dash of SAS Pro because I love the product although the free version is good too,
I feel quite good about the above combo,
    Cheers.

Do you think MS did this in purpose so that everyone will be forced to use a security software that they are in control of?

Well, multiple AVs at the same time never vent together well.

But with Win 8, the built-in AV is fine even after installing Avast and AVG. I just don't enable them at the same time. But if you accidentally did, all you get is a conflict error message and not a broken AV.

  15. Windows defender would be disabled mostly by the third party a-v being installed because of it's own features would replace defenders,
Turning it back on would be unadvised otherwise the third party would not of turned it off

One quirk I guess no one but I have run into in win-10 was windows defender would not come back on after uninstalling Panda antivirus :/
In a 10TP I would stick to the existing apps store a-v's "if" I were now going to replace win-defender which I wouldn't do it now anyway after the last deal,
There really is no need to replace w.d. add mbam pro and be done *Wink
