Viewing NAS drive files on windows 10

    G'day.
Have a little problem viewing files on my NAS drives.
Long story short, I'll got a couple of NAS drives on my home network that I use for backup, storage and coping files between my computers.
Ended up with a windows 10 laptop the other day and I wanted to transfer a file from my desktop to my laptop, so I just dropped the file onto my NAS drive and then turned my laptop and went to the NAS drive to get the file only to find I couldn't see any files on the NAS, only three folders "Pictures" " Music" and "Videos"
Been playing around trying to work it out for the last week but no luck, I tried to copy a file from the laptop to it but I can't do that either.
Sure it must be some setting but I can't seem to find it, tried searching but I'm missing the keyword, only finding people with problems seeing there NAS drive.
I should add that I can see pictures and music files if I open the "Pictures" or "Music" directory but I can't see another other soft of files (.txt .iso .exe ect)

Any ideal what I need to do to see my files?

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Photo app with networked photo files

I generally work with my photos on one computer and I like to view them (slide show, etc) on other computers. I keep my photos on a NAS. I'm wondering what the best way to view them using Windows 10 is? I have tired viewing my photos through the windows
10 photo app, but it can't locate any files. The only way I have found to view them is to navigate to the folder on the NAS and open/preview the individual files.

    Windows 10 snubs NAS files

None of my Windows 10 machines will view my NAS drives as anything but media servers, shutting me off from most of my files. I've tried every suggested solution I can find on the web and none of them works. At least one Microsoft official post blames the
drives. Funny that my Android phone, not to mention my television, has no problem seeing the files

First, is your network set to private in Network and Sharing Center? I think there is a tutorial here on how to change it to private.

Second, you are likely clicking on the icon in File Explorer for your NAS which is actually pointing the media server portion of your NAS, not the shared files. So, do Win+R to bring up the run dialog. Then type in \\NAS_Name\ and hit enter to get to the shared files. Obviously change NAS_Name to the name of your NAS.

Once you have your network set to private, and computer discovery turned on, scroll down in the left column of file explorer until you find network. Under network, you should see the name of your NAS listed under computers. You should be able to right click on the that and pin it to Quick Access. The NAS listed under Media Devices is going to be the media server part of your NAS.

    Thanks mate.
Yes my network is set to private.
Using the run dialogue worked for me.
I tried to type the address into the address bar the other day (\\nas\share" but it wouldn't work.
Never mind, working now thanks for that.
