    Hello,I had an old PC with Windows XP installed. The motherboard died but the hard disk is still "ok".I need to virtualize this hard disk to use it in a VM because it contains some legacy software that I cannot install in modern PCs.I am accessing to the hard disk using a station dock, which is connected to my windows 10 pc. It is like a common data disk no boot partition appears in Disk Management.I have tried to virtualize the disk with disk2vhd, but, when it seems is going to finish, I got the following errorVirtualize Windows XP hard drive using Windows 10 :Disk2vhd : error during copy. The error could not be performed due to an I/O err

    Using XP hard drive Virtual Machine on Windows 10

    I want to use my XP 32-bit hard drive (it is in an external enclosure) on a Virtual Machine under Windows 10 64-bit. The Win 10 machine has 16 GB of RAM and 2TB hard drive. The XP hard drive came from my old Gateway computer which has been trashed.
    Installed on the hard drive are Visual Basic 6 and many programs written by me. A few are compiled and function on Windows 10, but many others are not compiled. I would like to compile those for use on my Win 10 machine. A large program is compiled and
    cannot run because it requires a DLL to be installed on the Win 10 machine. I prefer to use the XP hard drive (in the external enclosure) as is with the virtual machine set up if possible. I am assuming that since the XP OS and Visual Basic are installed
    on that hard drive, they can function as they once did. I have never attempted a virtual machine and need detailed instructions on what steps to follow. My question is, can I do what I state above and, if yes, how do I do it?

    ah! lol. I selected xp from a list and thought that was all that was needed, turns out its just suggesting settings based on the selection. I'll just read up on this. I'm rushing into it without much thought here.

    ya I'm an idiot dude. I thought this would be like the windows mobile emulator in visual studio where everything is loaded already for you. I dont exactly have an xp disc laying around here at work lol.

    I'll just have to play with it when I get home.
