Windows 10: Virus and Threat Protection Missing

Hopefully this is in the right section of the forum.


As in the title, the option for virus and threat protection is not available in windows security. When I type it into my search bar, it appears and I am able to click it. However, it tells me "Your IT administrator has limited access to some areas of this app".

I have tried

1 deleting DisableAntiSpyware which was not present in my registry

2 disabling "Hide Virus and Threat Protection" in my group policies

3 reregistering my dll files using these commands regsvr32softpub.dll, regsvr32 wintrust.dll, regsvr32 initpki.dll,regsvr32 wups.dll, regsvr32 wuweb.dll, regsvr32 atl.dll, regsvr32 mssip32.dll

4 disabled "Turn off Windows Defender Antivirus" and "Allow antimalware service to startup with normal priority"

5 disabled "Enable headless UI mode"


So far, all of the methods did not work for me. Would be glad to hear any opinions. Thanks & Cheers!

Virus and threat protection has stopped and will not restart, Windows 10 ver 1709, antimalware client ver 4.12.16299.15 . SuperAntiSpyware installed.

I have tried most of the suggestions from the support pages, all have been ineffective. Any suggestions

ETD_GetSMART.exe is HP Software and it is safe, that software is designed to check your hard drive for imminent failure and warn you

You can add that to the list of safe files in Controlled Folder Access to get rid of this warning

Open Windows Defender Security Center

Go to Virus & threat protection - Virus & threat protection settings

Scroll down to Controlled folder access

From there, you can add an app to the list of safe or allowed apps to prevent them from being blocked

ETD_GetSMART.exe is located in the following folder:

C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Support Framework\Resources\HPActiveHealth\Executable Agent Data\_Shared\DiskCheck\

 

Virus & Threat Protection

There are some applications that are not yet compatible Control Folder Access. It is intended to block Ransomware. Until third party apps catch up, the best you can do is to disable it.

Open Windows Defender Security Center

Click Virus & threat protection

Click Virus & threat protection settings

Scroll down to Controlled folder access

Toggle it off
