Windows 10: Virus and Threat Protection

Discus and support Virus and Threat Protection in AntiVirus, Firewalls and System Security to solve the problem; I can't get to it. I can't get to Windows Update anymore, the little blue dots stream across the top of the window and never load the button to click...     I can't get to it. I can't get to Windows Update anymore, the little blue dots stream across the top of the window and never load the button to click to check for updates. It's been a couple weeks now. I can't get the updates from the Microsoft site either, as it just directs me back to my settings.

    Another clue is that I can't click in the Windows 10 "type here to search" without the window appearing up and then disappearing back down before it shows anything. I click start, then settings to try any tasks. I also have not seen "restart and update" since this trouble started, just restart. Just ran a Malware scan and got rid of anything there as well.

    Virus and threat protection has stopped and will not restart, Windows 10 ver 1709, antimalware client ver 4.12.16299.15 . SuperAntiSpyware installed.

    I have tried most of the suggestions from the support pages, all have been ineffective. Any suggestions

    ETD_GetSMART.exe is HP Software and it is safe, that software is designed to check your hard drive for imminent failure and warn you

    You can add that to the list of safe files in Controlled Folder Access to get rid of this warning

    Open Windows Defender Security Center

    Go to Virus & threat protection - Virus & threat protection settings

    Scroll down to Controlled folder access

    From there, you can add an app to the list of safe or allowed apps to prevent them from being blocked

    ETD_GetSMART.exe is located in the following folder:

    C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Support Framework\Resources\HPActiveHealth\Executable Agent Data\_Shared\DiskCheck\

    There are some applications that are not yet compatible Control Folder Access. It is intended to block Ransomware. Until third party apps catch up, the best you can do is to disable it.

    Open Windows Defender Security Center

    Click Virus & threat protection

    Click Virus & threat protection settings

    Scroll down to Controlled folder access

    Toggle it off
