  2. File Explorer Shows Incorrect File Size when copying from USB to C Drive folder

    Hello Peter,

the issue might be caused if there is virus in the external drive (USB). I suggest you to perform a virus scan using Windows Defender or any other antivirus software installed (if any) in your computer and check for status.

If the issue still persists, then suggest you to update the USB drivers by following the steps provided below:

    • Press Windows + X keys and select Device Manager.
    • Expand Universal serial bus controllers.
    • Right click on the drivers and select Update driver software.

Hope this helps. Keep us posted on the status for further assistance.

    Thank you.

help. USB drive isn't assigned a drive letter.

Any usb flash drive I plug into my computer isn't assigned a drive letter. The physical drive shows in the "safely remove hardware" but it doesnt show up in disk management. I have tried to populate the volume thru the safely remove hardware properties window and it does pop up in the list but it doesn't stay there. This isn't a format or assign a letter problem. It's more complicated then that. Maybe one of the services needed for usb drive management was disabled? Suggestions needed. btw external usb harddrives work fine.

    virus found in USB drive

    Unspecified USB Pen Drive

    Hi,

This can be caused by a driver issue or virus-infected USB drive. For further isolation of the issue and for us to provide a solution suitable to your pen drive concern, we need additional information. Can you answer the questions below?

    • When did this happen?
    • Were there any recent changes made to your device prior to the issue?
    • Does it appear in the disk management?
    • Can you connect other USB drives and see if the same error will occur?

In the meantime, try updating the USB driver as an initial troubleshooting step and see if the error will occur again when you connect your USB drive. Follow the steps below:

    • Open Device Manager.
    • Look for Universal Serial Bus controllers and click it to expand.
    • Select the driver then right-click on it and select Properties.
    • Under Driver tab, click the Update Driver
      button to update the driver.

We're looking forward to your response.
