  1. Virus on non-updated Windows Vista PC that eats files off USBs?!

My man is having a very odd business with his PC. He's been trying to update it from Windows Vista tee hee to Windows 10. This won't work for some reason, although he does have a legitimate copy of Windows 10 that we bought from Staples. I want him to update but he felt he was being a rebel and I said I think that he's caught a virus from before Covid, since that's how long it's been since he's been online with this particular PC.The virus or glitch is when I try to provide him with a PDF .pdf, Word .docx or Notepad .txt file via his or my USB, the file is immediately deleted?! It's on

    :)

Installing windows off of a USB stick

    Step By Step from vista:
    From admin cmd prompt

    1. diskpart
    1a. list disk
    2. select disk 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
    3. clean
    4. create partition primary
    5. select partition 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
    6. active
    7. format fs=fat32
    8. assign
    9. exit

Copy Windows Vista's DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive

xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\ (d being your vista cd and e being your usb stick)

And that's it, boot off your usb disk

  4. Virus on non-updated Windows Vista PC that eats files off USBs?!

    Vista Pre-SP1 vs. Vista SP1

I've been Windows Updating for two straight days and I finally saw SP1. If you want to troubleshoot it, follow these steps:

    • Show hidden updates
    • Manually install any failed updates (google the KB_____ and install from the windows site)
    • Make sure everything in Device Manager is good to go
I had to do step two for like 4 or 5 updates to be able to see SP1.

Any other benchmarks you guys want to see? I might try PCMark05 (I think it works on Vista).
