Windows 10: Virus protection in Windows defender is not getting enabled - Suspecting Windows update issue

I get below errors in windows update

Definition Update for Microsoft Office 2010 (KB3115475) 32-Bit Edition -Error 0x80070643

Definition Update for Windows Defender Antivirus - KB2267602 (Definition 1.283.1734.0) -Error 0x80246007

Windows update and windows defender issues

We suggest you to avoid installing any cleaner or anti-virus software that may interrupt the function of Windows Defender. Make sure that Windows Defender is always on. To do this follow these steps:

• On the Start menu, type Windows Defender and hit enter.
  
• Click Settings.
  
• Turn Real-time protection on.

Windows 10 Anniversary Update Issues

Problems with W10 Anniv auto update:

Mom's: (x58 Xeon 5677) Windows Defender was not turned back on automatically (it was "on" in the 1511 edition) and she had a Trojan. Full system scan to eradicate.
Her Epson printer was knocked off, had to uninstall by Device Manager pull USB cable and reconnect cable. W10 did the rest.

Step-mom's: (HP pre built) Windows Defender not turned back on by default. Her USB Seagate Expansion Drive 2Tb was offline so all backup routines were halted. Had to rerun backup plan. Had her do a full virus scan.

Step-dad's: (Dell Optiplex tweaked upgrades) Windows Defender not turned back on by default. Full Scan.

Go to Security and Maintenance, look in 'Security' and see what program is listed under Virus Protection. Windows Defender (WD) will not be enabled and functioning properly if there is a program other than Windows Defender listed.
