Windows 10: Virus protection is not starting.

Hello.

MY windows 10 has suddenly stopped the virus and threat protection in windows security. I do not use any other anti-virus. When I try to restart the threat service it tells me unexpected error occurred. How can I fix it?

• Have you installed any third-party anti-virus software on your device?
• Have you made any changes to the operating system prior to this issue?
• What is the complete error code/ error message of this issue?
• When exactly you get this error pop-up?

Try the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

How can I turn off virus protection?

I would suggest to only turn off virus protection for a short duration such as during the installation of an app that can't be installed otherwise.

The steps to turn off windows defender are:

1. Select Start button > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > virus & threat protections settings

2. Switch Real-time protection to Off. Note that scheduled scans will continue to run. However, files that are downloaded or installed will not be scanned.
