Windows 10: Vmware Workstation and W10

I am running W10.Can anyone suggest why I am having trouble using VMware on my class 3 Dell 5430 laptop running W10? I was able to install Vmware but when I tried to open it the next day it would not open. I was also unable to connect a USB 3.0 Flash Drive but I could connect a USB 2.0 Flash Drive. Unfortunately it is not big enough and I can no longer buy a USB 2.0 Flash Drive. The reason I need VMware is because my wife is writing a book and that she is dependent on Dragon voice recognition and this only works properly in Windows 7 using Dragon 12.5 none of which I can load

Am running on a Linux Host (Arch Linux with kernel 5.3 but also same for Windows Hosts -- both VMWARE workstation and player). Simply before powering on any VM just check for updates (via the help function on the menu bar) - unless you have enabled check for updates at start up.
