Windows 10: Volume control in kiosk mode

I'm setting up a medical device based on Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC, version 1809, OS build 17763.107

It's set in Kiosk mode, so that when Windows starts it automatically launches a custom win32 software.

Now, in this software we would like to control the audio volume, the programmer tried a couple of different approaches, but none of them seems to work.


I noticed that even if I try to regulate the volume with the buttons on the physical keyboard which in normal use wouldn't be connected to the machine it doesn't change. I can ear the sounds, but I'm unable to control the volume


When I run explorer.exe, the volume starts to work, both with physical buttons and inside the sw.


So it seems to me that without the default shell Windows is unable to control the volume.

How can I solve this?

I understand that you are facing issues while using Kiosk Mode on Windows 10.



Since you are being logged out of Kiosk Mode after every login, I suggest you to refer the article

Troubleshoot kiosk mode issues.



Also, you can try removing and creating the Kiosk account again, follow the steps mentioned below to remove the Kiosk account:

1. Go to Settings >
   Accounts > Family & other people.
   
2. Under Setup a kiosk option click on
   Assigned access.
   
3. Now under Kiosk info click on the
   account name and click on Remove kiosk.
   
4. Now click on Remove.
   

Once the account is removed, refer the article to
Set up a single-app kiosk.

You can exit Assigned access by pressing the Ctrl+Alt+Del keys.

Option 2 in the tutorial below can help show you step by step on how to remove a Kiosk account for Assigned Access to permanently exit Kiosk mode.
