Windows 10: Volume Mixer doesn't save settings for Some apps. How do I fix it ? Potentially UWP issue

Long story short, it was working but I had a different issue so I re-installed Windows. After re-install as I was getting my PC back up to speed, I noticed that issues. Tried a lot of things but nothing worked. Re-installed windows, talked to a technician through the Virtual Agent or whatever, but even He couldn't fix.


Now I am on my 5th re-install of Windows 10 and I have given up hope of ever fixing this and before you say "That was never a feature.", you're wrong. Before re-installing Windows the first time, it used to work 98% of the time which is still not perfect, but it did work.


Wait, what's the issue again ?

In the Volume Mixer, when I change the settings for some programs mute/lower volume it saves those setting and remembers them when I re-open the program. That has stopped working for some programs. I noticed the apps that don't save are usually UWP.


I'm about 95% it's not a driver/device issue since one of the solution was to go to the registry key that saves these setting and I fiddled around with them. Could delete the key for the apps that were saved and sure enough they would be reset in the mixer. Also watched them get created and I was using the mixer.


Still though, I find it hilarious that I shared me screen with an actual MS technician and he was able to control it too, yet basically he had no idea how to fix that problem. In the end I told him I used a bootable USB with that WIndows Media Creation Tool or whatever it's called, he used that too to Upgrademy Windows, I asked what should I do after that fails and he said I should reset my Windows through the settings.... and that's exactly what happened: The Upgrade failed to solve the problem and so did the Reset.


Oh and I never keep my old files in case there was a corrupted files causing the problem. Also always got Windows from the network Cloud ? in case my local install was corrupted.

volume mixer not saving settings for UWP apps after windows 10 2004 update

After I update my windows 10 to 2004, I found volume mixer works good for common exes, but not good for UWP apps e.g. Forza Horizon 4, Groove Music, Microsoft Solitare Collection. If I try to set volume in volume mixer (the same in Windows Settings - System
- Sound - Advanced Sound Options) it will not save my settings after I close apps. Volume will reset automatically when I reopen them. I try that on 4 PCs (one of them is virtual machine with new install window 10 2004) and all of them has save problem. This
Problem not appares in 1909. Any solves plz?

1. What is the exact issue that you are facing?

2. Did you receive any error message?

3. Does that mean that the Volume mixer icon is not present on the desktop?

4. Are you facing this sound issue on any specific application, since you had mentioned Skype?

If the Volume mixer icon is missing from the desktop, this issue may arise when the notification for the Volume mixer is not turned on in the settings.

Please follow the below steps and check if that helps to resolve the issue.

  Type Notifications in the Searchbar and select Notifications and action center.

  Select the option “Select which icons appear on the taskbar”.
  
• 
  Make sure the Volume icon has been turned on from the settings.
  

If the issue still persists, I suggest you to download and install any pending updates that needs to be installed on the computer through Windows update and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

how can remove old apps and reset mixer volume ?

I guess it's mosly a general question then an audio question so i think it's the right subforum

I have tried this portable softare nirsoft AppAudioConfig v1.15 , and I have seen there are lots but really lots of uninstalled apps and sandboxie apps (programs i have run under sandboxie ) in the list

AppAudioConfig v1.15 is similar to SoundVolumeView v2.20 , but it does list all apps with sound mixer settings ,it does 't allow me to remvove these apps that i haven't anymore

may I ask (seeing i have 't found a tutorial in this forum or w7 forum) there is a way to reset the volume mixer of all the programs?

and Is there a way to remove all these apps (removed or started under sandboxie) settings from the volume mixer easly seeing they are lots
