  1. Volume mixer not muting applications

When I want an app to not play any audio, I go to the volume mixer and set its volume to zero. However this is not muting the app anymore, and when backing out of and re-entering the volume mixer, the volume is set to somewhere lower than the previous setting, but not zero. When first opening volume mixer:Setting volume to zero audio still plays, just quieter:After closing and opening volume mixer:

    Hello, Callum Fitzgerald

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

Firstly, thank you very much for the screenshot.

If you are experiencing problems with Volume Mixer not muting the application as expected, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

    1. restart the application:

Sometimes, the volume settings in Volume Mixer may not take effect immediately. Try closing and reopening the application you want to mute to check if the volume is muted.

    2. Restart your computer:

Simply restarting your computer can help resolve a temporary software glitch. After restarting, check that the volume mixer is behaving as expected.

    3. Update audio drivers:

Outdated or incompatible audio drivers can cause a variety of problems, including volume mixer issues. Visit your computer manufacturer's or sound card manufacturer's website to download the latest audio drivers for your system. Once installed, check to see if the problem has been resolved.

    4. Reset sound settings:

Resetting the sound settings on your computer can often resolve audio-related issues. To do this, right-click on the volume icon on the taskbar, select "Open Volume Mixer", and then click on the speaker icon in the bottom right corner of the Volume Mixer window. This will reset all sound settings to their defaults. Then, check that the Volume Mixer is working as expected.

    5. Perform a system file check:

Corrupted system files can sometimes cause problems with the Volume Mixer. To check and repair system files, open a command prompt as administrator and run the following command: SFC /SCANNOW This process will scan and repair any corrupted system files that may be affecting the Volume Mixer.

If you can't recover your Volume Mixer with the above method, you can check if this happens with other apps open and in use, you are welcome to share the problem with us!

If your problem is not solved, you can reply to the post again and we will continue to provide you with technical support. If our reply is helpful, please mark it as such. This will help other users who are experiencing the same problem as you! Thank you very much for your contribution to the community!

Volume Mixer not showing muted app

The application was muted on Windows 10 with November update. Now I am using Anniversary update, on build 14393.10

The initial step did not help make Banished show up in the Volume Mixer, nor did the article.

Muted Application Missing from Volume Mixer

Hi Rodrigo, thanks for the reply!

Sadly it doesn't appear in every device in the volume mixer and not in the "App volume and device preferences" while letting it produce sound.

I've also tried uninstalled and reinstalled the application but it doesn't work too.
