    So with COVID-19 and all I'm working from home and for the last month everything has been fine. As of yesterday however I can no longer get my VPN and remote desktop connection to my work computer to function. I went through some trouble shooting with our tech support but he's got no ideas; guy had "never seen this error message before". He was able to log in with my credentials from his office but has no suggestions for me.


    I get the message "The connection to the remote computer could not be established. You might need to change the network settings for this connection"


    I've tried updating windows, removing and resetting up the VPN information and still the same message. I checked the event log and and it said "The user ****redacted**** dialed a connection named HEP VPN which has failed. The error code returned on failure is 720."


    The only reference to this error I can find references dial up connections and in some places also VPN. The following mentions dial up:

    This one mentions dial up and VPN but not for windows 10 as I have:

    Remote Desk Top Stopped working Oct 7 After Windows 10 Update

    I used remote desk top as I do everyday on 10/6 to log into the company I work for in another state. I shut down my computer for the evening. When I turned the computer back on the morning of 10/7 to work the remote desk top had stopped working. The
    IT people have checked everything at the company. I have checked everything here, settings, the firewall, etc. I even worked with a comcast tech person to see if it might be an internet problem. It appears there was a Windows 10 update. Could this be the
    problem?

    Using VPN Connection

    As far as vpn between wm5 and wm6, vpn should be the same. VPN options; via your Telco, via Wifi, and via your dest top.



    Unless you have a business account with your carriar and have VPN access with them, no joy. Extra bandwith and processor time for VPNs is expensive so they want $. Most companies have/want access to Exchange. Look at the permutations with just the authentication
    and encryption variables provides. Each time your phone connections to the internet do you get the same IP?



    VPN will work when a device is tethered your desktop (sync). The wm5/6 client is for windows remote access server, you your desk top would have to have access to a server.



    WiFi as the above but access with the server is different.



    Connect the support desk for your carrier and inquire about VPN. Most likely you will be imformed "vpn is not supported". If you have a business account support is different ($).



    You mentioned in your very first post, that you setup your desktop to connect. I suspected you have knowledge of vpns as Nortel in not something 'out of the box'. You mentioned about the cost of vpn clients, if you are connecting to something other then
    remote access server a client will be needed.



    Does your desk top need a client???

    I connected to my office PC, using VPN and remote desktop, Dell all in one 380 with my new Hp Spectre 360 convertible. The display on my office computer that is displayed on my Hp Spectre isso tiny I need a microscope to read anything on the screen.
    Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the screen of my connection larger? Thanks
