    Vsphere farm Microsoft Licensing


    Hi, we have a Vsphere Farm 6.5 with 3 Host.

    Every Host has 16 core, so totally are 48 core.

    We have bought a Windows License for 48 core.

    If I install 5 VM on this farm, that need of 64 core totally, do I need to buy Licenses for these machines?

    My question is:

    if I buy a license that covers the number of cores of ESXì Host, are these license enough to install any VM on the farm or I need to buy other licenses?

    Windows Server 2016 Datacenter License in a vSphere HA Cluster.

    Dear All,



    we have received our four Blades, and each blade has a “Windows Server 2016 Datacenter (24 Core)” License Sticker (COA), which means we have 4 different windows license keys to use.

    We have configured the four blades in a vSphere HA Cluster, we were expecting
    to have one license key to be used for all VMs in our HA Cluster, because if we used each key to license all the virtual machines running on a specific blade, then what if we migrate a VM from one blade to another, will this breach Microsoft licensing
    terms? Can someone please clarify this point?
