Windows 10: VSS based backup operations windows 7 Backup not working Error 0x81000019

Backing up my system using Windows Backup is not working. i have figured out why, I am just not sure how to go about solving the issue. VSS operations are failing with 0x81000019, which from my research, means that VSS is not finding enough space for operations. I have 4Tb for my primary and a 1Tb+intel optane from my secondary. both drives still have A LOT of space still, so that is not the issue. I ran Acronis VSS doctor, and it found that VSS was trying to perform operations on my recovery partitions setup by MSI for factory recovery and running out of free space. While i definitely would

Looking to see if anyone can help...

Windows 10 from a Windows 7 upgrade.
Windows 7 system backups worked fine, stopped after migration.

Get the following error:





Also see lots of errors in the event viewer about VSS issues

Interesting one is the volume shadow copy service times out and then stops:

The VSS service is shutting down due to idle timeout.




I have to start the volume shadow copy service manually after.


I've tried:

"Clean Boot" - How to perform a clean boot in Windows - Microsoft Support
disabled startups and non ms services - no change

Tried a sfc /scannow - which reported no errors

chkdsk reports no errors

It talks about low disk space in one of the event viewer entries but there is 40GB free


Any help would be appreciated.

Error 0x81000019, Windows 10 Desktop

My computer is trying to do its weekly backup. Last week and the weeks prior backup worked fine. However, this week I am getting the 0x81000019 error. "A shadow copy could not be created. Please check "VSS" and "SPP" application event logs for more information.
Details: The writer experienced a non-transient error. If the backup process is retried, the error is likely to reoccur." The drive I am using for the backup still has 647 GB free. Any Suggestions?
