    The only way to get the server vss writers to start again, is to reboot the server. If we try restarting Volume Shadow Copy, the server hangs a bit in the process or rather the stop and start process hangs. We have to reboot to get it going again.

    The backups will continue to fail with the Datto BCDR appliance until I uninstall and reinstall the agent and repair the agent communications.

    But if I do all of this again, I get to the same spot where the server backups fail after 1 or 2 jobs run. The incrementals that are supposed to run should be relatively tiny.

    I am planning on trying another backup application in the event this can't be repaired.

    Does anyone know of how I can get better diagnostic data as to why VSS is hanging? Why it's failing to backup using VSS? Why I can't restart the service?

  3. Windows Server 2016 Essentials upgrade to Windows Server 2016 Standard

    I had an OEM version of Windows Server 2016 Essentials installed.

    I wanted to use Remote Desktop for 3 users, which essentials cant do.

    I have installed an evaualtion of Windows Server 2016 Standard, and have got 3 users remote connecting to the server to run an accounting application.

    Thats fine, i have purchased 3 cals for Windows Remote Desktop Services.

    My question.

    Can i upgrade from 2016 Essentials (which i bought) to Windows Server 2016 Standard, or do i have to buy a new Server 2016 license?

    Windows Server backup Not working

    I have server 2008R2 Standard OS.

    Windows Server backup is not working, VSS Writers also not listed and Tried to re register but nothing work for me. When open windows server backup it also gave error " A Fatal error occurred during a windows server backup snap in(wbadmin.msc) operation
    error detail unknown error 0x80042302

    System Event ID : 7031 : The Volume Shadow Copy service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 0 milliseconds: Restart the service.

    Application Event ID : 12347 : Volume Shadow Copy Service error: An internal inconsistency was detected in trying to contact shadow copy service writers. The Registry Writer failed to respond to a query from VSS. Check to see that the Event Service and Volume
