    W-10 logs off to black screen with 1 min of no activity


    Recently, about time of last update, my W-10 Pro, Dell xps8920 desktop began logging me out to black screen after approx 60 sec of inactivity - continuously. I can tap L mouse & return to password entry screen. I've tried resetting power options to default, changed advanced power setting & different power settings in control panel -power options. Nothing helps. For 6-8 months, I've had similar problem with a HP Pavilion Laptop with W-10 pro (updated from W-7), but I set it on sleep-hypernate NEVER & it follows the plan. Appreciate ideas - I'm empty.

    Hi,

    I would suggest you try the power troubleshooter if you are able to boot into the system.

    Follow the steps below.

    • Press Windows key + W and type Troubleshooting.
    • Select Troubleshooting and click on System and Security.
    • Click on Power and follow the onscreen steps.

    As per the description, I understand that you are facing black screen errors and unable to log-in.

    Provide us the additional information to assist you better with this issue:

    • What is the exact error message/ error code of this issue?
    • Have you made any changes to the operating system prior to this issue?

    As a workaround, I suggest you to remove all the external devices being connected (except mouse and keyboard), try hard reboot the device and check the status of this issue.

    As you are unable to log-in to the desktop with black screen, I suggest you to try the troubleshooting steps provided in the below Microsoft article and check if it helps.
