Windows 10: I mistakenly deleted my PATH variables, and was going to use my backed up system from WIndows Backup and restore to restore JUST the file images. I thought it might be good to turn off BitLocker before doing that, so I started that process. Will the Restore function still work once the decrypt is complete?Thank you.

  2. Windows 10 System Image Restore

Finally managed to copy the Windows System image from my NAS to an HDD connected to my laptop using USB 2.

Started up the 'dead' PC (not the laptop) using the Widow's Repair disk on DVD and connected the HDD with the system image using a USB caddy. Connected another new HDD where the original system disk was - so far so good?

Followed the steps on the system repair disk which found the system image on the USB HDD and the restore process seemed to start ok? The process started restoring the c: drive but stopped almost immediately with the following message:-

    'The system image restore failed.

Error details: The volume does not contain a recognized filesystem. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted. (0x800703ED)'

In DISKPART the new HDD is listed as Disk 2 No Media

    Where to next ... ?

How to delete inactive System Image Restore Points in System Restore

    Windows 10 64-bit.
When I click "show more restore points" in System Restore I see a bunch of old "system image restore points" that were deleted in past and do not correspond to any currently active restore points. Clicking any of these old restore points, I simply get an error message saying they could not be found, and to select another restore point instead.I would like to delete these restore points listings but have been unable to do so.
So far, I have tried steps mentioned below without any luck :

Disk Cleanup through (CW 10: needed to use Restore system file images. Thought it would be good to decrypt disk.... :) Properties
Disable System Protection (OFF and ON) in System Protection for OS (CW 10: needed to use Restore system file images. Thought it would be good to decrypt disk.... :)
Disk Space Usage to minimum (slider button all the way to the left then 'Delete all restore points for this drive'),
Delete all shown Restore points in CCleaner (the problem ones do not show here),
Reset Windows Backup to Default in Windows 10 with 'Reset_Windows_Backup.bat' utility.

    Any suggestions highly welcome.

Restoring Windows 10 Image using Macrium Reflect

In addition to the above. Here's my suggestion in step by step.
I assume you have Macrium Installed in your current HD and already made a backup copy.
    1. Connect your new HD via USB port and boot up.
    2. Run Macrium, click on Restore tab then select the Backup Image that you made to restore
    3. click on "select a different target disk" then select your new HD as destination

    4. Proceed to restore then Shutdown and disconnect the old HD and replace with the new HD
    5. Boot up with your new HD.
