Windows 10: W10 10H1 fast / slow ring -- Read old IBM Microdrive OK !!!!

I'm getting more impressed with some of the recent releases of W10 on the test rings -- OK I have serious problems with the Language interfaces on the 20H1 Skip ahead but on the latest Fast+Slow ring 19H1 release 18362.1 everything I need seems to work OK.

I put an old IBM Microdrive into a USB card reader - had a slot for the microdrive and " Bingo" it read the data which I hadn't been able to access since W7 days !!!! -- some lovely old photos were on the microdrive !!

The first affordable (relative !!) digital cameras used these for staorage -- the old Canon D30/D60 for our photography enthousiasts on the forums.





For Historians -- computer technology geeks etc etc here's a pic of the old IBM microdrive --they came in 2 sizes - 340MB and the one I had 1GB. - In those days that was a decent amount of storage in a small format.

You don't have to be registered for the slow / fast ring development -- simply use UUPDUMP if you want to test these releases -- BUT TAKE BACKUP OF YOUR OLD SYSTEM FIRST. !!

Those old cameras also handled CF (compact flash -- the Microdrive was compatible but slightly fatter -- your device apparently will read them OK and space is big enough for you to slide the IBM Microdrive into).

You can buy adapters for them still - see this example on Amazon UK.




I still have an adapter to read them in PCMCIA card slots but only my very oldest computer [2005] has one.

Hi folks,

I've found about 6 old IBM microdrives with what I imagine are some old photos on them.

Any type of older card readers that could still handle these as I'm curious on those old pictures.
I've long since disposed of the cameras that could handle this type of device (Canon D30, D60, Mk II etc).

I'm sure there must be some old pro photographers out there or dedicated / serious amateurs who used these types of cameras and the devices - I'll bet some of these will still beat any quick taken "snapshot" with a mobile phone "camera" !!!. even if the resolution isn't as great.
