    When setting an application's output to something other than default in the "App Volume" settings app, upon launching that application again, it is back to outputting audio to the default device, Even though the selection in App Volume was saved, it is still outputting to the default device upon opening it.

    Have to manually open App Volume and change the output selection from/to the desired output device upon running the application again in order for it to output to the right device again.

  2. Volume settings never remembered

    What windows version you have? if 1803 version u have:

    It has a feature that you can choose the volume levels for each individual app as well as the default input/output device for each one. Note that the app will need to be running for it to show up in the list. If you want to start over, just tap the Reset button.

    The audio output device setting in 'App volume and device preferences' doesn't actually work at all.

    In 'App volume and device preferences', I set an output audio device other than the default device for my app. I then closed and reopened the application for my change to take effect.

    Windows 10 did remember the sound devices I assigned to the individual app whenever I launched the app. But my app will not output to the assigned audio devices at all. It persists to output to the default one.

    What's wrong?

    My app is simple enough. It's a console application written with C#.

    var synthesizerMy = new SpeechSynthesizer();

    //synthesizerMy.SetOutputToDefaultAudioDevice();

    synthesizerMy.Speak("Are you ready?");

    synthesizerMy.Dispose();

    And I am sure that the driver of this assigned audio device works well. When I change the default output audio device to it, my app then will output to this usb audio device.

    So, I wonder why the output setting for my app in 'App volume and device preferences' does not work at all.

    My Windows 10 Pro is Ver. 1909.

    Thank you for your advice.

    Volume settings never remembered

    Have a try this:

    1. Right click or press and hold on the Volume icon on the taskbar notification area, and click/tap on Open Volume Mixer. (see screenshot below)

    2. You can now adjust each slider to the volume level you want for your individual devices and apps.

    ou will not be able to adjust the volume level of individual apps higher than the master volume level of the default playback device.

    3. When finished, you can close the Volume Mixer.

    Change Volume Level of Individual Devices and Apps from Settings

    1. Open Settings, and click/tap on the System icon.

    2. Click/tap on Sound on the left side, and click/tap on App volume and device

    3. Adjust the Master volume and individual app volume levels to what you want for selected output and input sound devices.

    4. When finished, you can close Settings if you like.

    Change Volume Level of Individual Games and Apps from Game Bar

    1. Open the Game Bar (Win+G).

    2. You can now adjust each slider to the volume level you want for your individual games and apps. (see screenshot below)

    3. When finished, you can close the Game Bar if you like.

    Hope it help, have a good day.
