W10 home has a defer update box that can be checked, is that a fluke or a new feature? This is not the insider build, it is the most recent windows 10 image created with the windows 10 media creation tools (Iso image).

I read on different sites the defer update box shouldn't be there in windows 10 home unless that has changed.

    :)

  2. How can i check that my laptop has a genuine copy of windows 10?

Select the keyboard shortcut Win+S and type
    About your PC.
Click the Best Match at the top of the dropdown menu, scroll down the page and click
Change product key or upgrade your edition of Windows to get the requested information.

I also have W10 Home. I just checked for updates and do not have a box to defer them. I did have three updates to install.

  5. Are you sure that's not a "Defer Upgrades"? Upgrades are added features. Updates are patches etc.

  7. Ah, OK. I don't have Home running on any of my PC's to check it. Sometimes people mix up upgrades and updates. You had defer updates in your thread title so I wanted you to double check. I thought they all had defer upgrades, but only Pro and Ent had an option to defer updates. We'll have to wait for somebody else running Home to post what they see.

I have deferred updates for a couple of weeks only to find it forced them eventually - I deferred them to allow time for MS to fix errors in there updates as I can't afford to have an update mess up my system and loose revenue.

  9. Updates or Upgrades? If updates, how did you defer them?

    updates....

Settings > updates&security > Windows Update > Advanced options > notify to schedule restart. I can't see an option as my system is up to date but when one is available I can delay the update by 5 or 6 days....I will repost when this is available to me.

  11. Ok, if I understand that, your delaying the reboot after they have already been installed, right? And it only works if you don't turn your PC off, or reboot it. Updates that don't require a reboot will install anyway too.

As far as I'm am aware I am delaying the installation of the updates. I use my computer as normal and turn it off when not in use. Occasionally when I start it up I have the windows is updating boot up screen. This happens on the date I have not selected to update.

As far as I know, "notify to schedule restart" just delays the reboot after they are installed? It doesn't stop them from being installed in the first place. If you shut down or reboot manually the update is completed. That's why they are being done anyway.

Thank you for this....I thought it was a way to avoid potential dodgy drivers etc....I guess as a home OP user there is not much we can do. Best wishes.

  15. It's not just Home, even if you are running Pro, you still need to have access to "Windows update for Business" to have control over what updates get installed.
