Windows 10: W10 on VBox

Discus and support W10 on VBox in Windows 10 Virtualization to solve the problem; The latest version of VB and the guest additions (4.3.18) work well with W10. Ok, performance could be better but at least it works flawlessly, even in... Discussion in 'Windows 10 Virtualization' started by proudtobegreek, Oct 1, 2014.

    Hi there

We *Might* have some Misunderstanding here.

VBOX works fine running W10 as a VIRTUAL machine. Have you tried setting up a W10 REAL system (installing W10 on a REAL machine) and then installing and running VBOX with Virtual machines on the W10 HOST system. (W10 X-64 as HOST and some x-64 OS'es as VM's).

    Cheers

I'm using a Windows 8.1 host, trying to run Windows 10 Preview (32 bit) in Virtual Box. I've downloaded the latest VB, but when I try to install the Guest Additions, it crashes out just after a message on installing the "WDDM drivers for Windows 8 or newer".

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong or what I can do to make it work?

Have you installed the latest Guest Additions on your host? As far as I know you need to install them on both, the host and the guest. Are you running VB 4.3.18. Is hardware acceleration for 2D and 3D enabled in your virtual machine? Have you tried to run your guest in safe mode in order to install the Guest Additions?

    Yes
Yes - I tried again with a fresh install in 4.3.18 and it gave the same problem
Where does that come from? Before I've only ever installed in the guest and it's worked before.
I tried this, but the system would then just BSOD on reboot.

But we have a winner... *Wink
This seemed to be the key: after ticking the 3D box and giving it 256MB, it works!

Thanks both for your help. *Smile

Just to clear things up, the Guest Additions are just what the name implies GUEST Additions, they are additions to the guest OS, not the host.
