  1. w10 shared files editable but cannot copy new files from network

I've a w10 setup for file sharing. On the client side (the other computer on the network) I can create a file and save it on the w10. No problem. This was not easy as y'all know but I got that to work, finally.*really

The remaining problem is that I cannot simply copy a file/files from the computer on the network to the w10 machine. I get a does not have permission error. I can't figure out why I can create or edit a file and save it but I cannot simply copy an existing file over to the w10 machine.

    Any ideas?

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Networking Problem

I have 4 computers, all assigned to “Workgroup.”

3 are W7. 1 is a new W10, just purchased. All are visible to each other in File Explorer.

The 3 W7 machines all connect with each other, successfully sharing files and network printers.

The new W10 machine connects with 2 of the W7 machines, sharing files and network printers.

When I try to connect to the remaining W7 machine from the W10 machine, I get a path not found error (x80070035).

Diagnosis of the error gives the following info:

"File and print sharing resource ([W7 machine in question]) is online but isn't responding to connection attempts. The remote computer isn't responding to connections on port 445, possibly due to firewall or security policy settings."

I checked the Windows firewall on both the W7 and W10 machines. Private and public inbound rules for file and print sharing (NB-Session-in and SMB-in) are enabled.

I turned off the firewall on both the W7 and W10 machines. No difference.

Finally I turned off antivirus for both the W7 and W10 machines. No difference.

    I'm stumped.

  3. Windows 10: Enter Network Credentials Username and Password for a computer that already has "no password required sharing is enabled"

I have a similar problem. Old PC is Dell Lap with Windows 7. New PC MS Surface with Windows 10. W7 is not allowed access to W10.

Popup asks for user and password. No combination of user and pass on W10 work. Eureka! It wants the user and pass from W7. Not intuitive!

Problem is still present. Now get "Network Error" "do not have permission...".

I setup a new account on W7 with the same user and pass as W10. Tried it all again. Still get same "Network Error"...

I tried accessing through "User Groups" and "File Explorer". I get the same results.

    Notes:

W10 resets User Group sharing to "Not Shared" every time it is rebooted.

Advance sharing, "All Networks" is set to "Turn off password protected sharing".

w10 shared files editable but cannot copy new files from network

On your local computer, there will be two ways to access shared folders. There will be the physical folder location under This PC and there will be the network shared location under Network. I have a feeling you might be attempting to save the copied files to the local PC through it's Network shared location and you probably don't have Write permission set for that share. Make sure you are trying to save the file to the real folder under This PC.

  5. I will check all that. I should add that I made access to EVERYONE on the w10 acting as the file server on the network

You can set everyone with share rights but then the NTFS permissions kick in and will block you if you don't have NTFS permissions if you create a folder by default you will be the owner so others may have limited rights

  7. OK, you diagnosed it properly.*Smile
There were 2 entries in explorer
    1. The mapped network drive in this case Y:
    and
    2. the Network described version y(\\W7) (z)

I was trying to copy stuff to #2 and I couldn't get permission, but I could copy it to #1. So my problem is fixed. I have a rough idea of the difference in those entries but I"ll have to study a bit more to really get it.

Thanks for your help. I was getting pretty aggravated.
