Windows 10: Waiting Game

This is the Update information that I have on 1 of my 3 PCs.

On the 2nd, the necessary update has been installed i.e. KB3035583 but there is nothing in the system tray.

On the 3rd, the notification icon is there in the system tray, but no email confirmation was initiated.

So, for the moment, I appear to be only able to upgrade 1 of my 3 PCs.

Wait/Busy Pointer at a PC Game

I downloaded SWBF II : Deluxe and the problem seems to be my courser rather the game itself. When opening the game, everything is fine, but after you get in and in the Menu, the pointer goes to a blue circle and doesn't return back to the click courser.
I tried using multiple coursers, reinstalling mouse, reinstalling game, flushing dns, clearing some stuff, and doing some stuff I've seen other people do, but still I cannot play the game because of the courser. I left the game to run for a few hours and its
still at a high cpu gpu ect. I have a decent PC, that should be able to run Starwars Battlefronts II, and already did live chat with EA service. Please help.

 

You can update all PC's. The "reservation" is only needed to automatically update via Windows Update. You can always download the ISO and upgrade from that.

 

Thanks, I assume that the upgrade uses the same key that came with the original windows 7/8 installation.

 

The upgrade doesn't use any key. If your Windows 7/8.x is already activated, it will stay activated.

 

I was under the impression that after the upgrade to Windows 10 that a clean build could be installed. Is this still the case?

 

Yes, that is the case. You still won't need a key, Windows automatically knows your hardware.

 

So if I change anything i.e HD, SSD, Video Adaptor, or upgrade my system then does this mean that Windows 10 will no longer be registered. This I assume is recoverable in the 1st year but what happens after 29 July 2016?

My Windows 7 Pro has been used on a number of different builds (1 user) that I have configured over the years .

 

Nothing happens after the 1st year. You can keep Windows 10 for free. The only thing that might cause a problem with registration is if you upgraded from an OEM licensed Windows 7 and you replace the motherboard with a different model. You can change the HD, SSD, video adapter, or anything else.

 

More than likely, if you change the motherboard or move it to a different computer, you will have to re-install Windows 7, and perform the upgrade again. We don't know for sure how this will work until someone actually does it with a real, non-insider upgrade.

 

I have ordered the retail version, I'll be doing the Get Windows 10 upgrade tomorrow and playing around with that until I get the retail box.

I want to back up the upgrade version before I do a clean install so I have a spare copy of 10.

 

I can see this upgrade path being a real pain in the proverbial!

I initially bought Windows 7 Home Premium because it did all that I wanted. I them did a motherboard/processor/RAM upgrade to 32G memory only to discover that Home Premium didn't support more than 16G. So I bought an upgrade to Pro purely to get the benefit from the extra RAM.

So it looks like a rebuild would entail an initial Windows 7 Home Premium installation followed by an upgrade to Windows 7 Pro to enable a further upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.

No wonder swarfega has invested in a retail version.

 

Well, actually, you should be able to use the Pro upgrade key when you install Windows 7 home Premium, and it will actually install the Pro version. If that doesn't work, it's pretty easy to upgrade Premium to Pro, just by clicking the "Add Features" link.. it takes a few minutes of churning, and a reboot and you're on Pro... not a complete re-install.

Still, this is a free upgrade, and because of that you might have a few hoops to jump through. If you don't want to jump through them, then you can always purchase a retail license.
