Windows 10: Want to combine disk C and D

I have a solid state drive and there is C and D drive on Disk 1. D is unallocated but when try to Expand Volume of C, the Extend Volume prompt is greyed out. I did what all the instructions stated. I deleted D and it became unallocated, but now it won't combine! I need help, it's a new Acer computer.

Alice, are you having any specific issues related to having two drives/partitions? For various reasons it is actually recommended to have a separate partition for your data, instead of having just a single one for both your data and Windows.

If you really want to combine them regardless you will need to obtain the help of someone knowledgable, otherwise you run the risk of losing all your existing data too.

As for your lost desktop icons/files/folders, it's difficult to suggest anything without knowing what exactly the technician did. They may simply have been moved somewhere temporarily, and perhaps the technician forgot to put them back. Or they may have
been deleted, in which case you'll have to use data recovery software but there's no guarantee you'll recover everything. But first, any way you can ask the technician to list all the changes made to your system?

Thank you for your detailed response to my question. I have carefully gone over your answer and have a few comments.

In your second and third paragraphs you suggest some fixups. I used to be able to get those programs. Now they are not listed. I typed in dism/online/cleanup-image/checkhealth. The result was an error 87 - online/cleanup-image/checkhealthoption is unknown.
I am sure the tech did not run any fixups. He was adamant that my files had to be transferred to the J Drive. I did question this and was told this was the only thing that would work.

It was suggested to me by a friend that if I combined C & D, the 225GB on C and the 1.81TB on D would be added together, and I would not run out of space where things seem to be stored. If it can be done, OS programs on C, User Data and things like music
on D, and backups and rarely accessed files on J would be very good. I don't have a K drive. My users folder is on C and has been. There is no users folder on D. I do not move between computers or require C1 level security. Microsoft Assure is advertised

You suggest calling and asking for a Level 2 tech. Do you know what level the techs would be in the Microsoft stores? I am reluctant to contact a tech unless I know something about his capabilities
since this has been an awful problem to deal with.
